Firefox hangs indefinitely at "Looking up..."

I'm using Firefox 3.5.3. Sometimes (seems to happen randomly) when I go to any page on Smashboards (whether it's the home page or a thread), Firefox will hang at "Looking up http://www.smashboards.com" or "Transferring data from http://www.smashboards.com", and, until I restart Firefox, will not load any page from http://www.smashboards.com. Even closing the tab and opening a new one won't fix it, only a restart (or use IE). This happens on one another site AFAIK as well, but it doesn't happen at all at most sites I frequent. I looked through http://kb.mozillazine.org/Error_loading_websites but couldn't find anything that fixed it.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Oh yeah and if there's a more appropriate place for this thread then feel free to move it.

Smashboards has trashy code that has been slowly hacked together over a few years, and appears not to really follow any standard for that long, firefox probably sees some of its code as redundant (which alot of it is), tries to shortcut or go off of the cache but wait something changed slightly that it didn't see, I honestly have no idea but I blame whoever coded this site. I swear the site was written out of a textbook from the mid/late 90s, when the person was in highschool. There are just so many things in it that you would get beaten over the head for using now a days.

You could try using Opera, since it's made of ultimate win.

Otherwise, dunno what to say. Firefox is a miserable pile of failure (Memory leaks ahoy) and neglecting web standards, so I usually just blame any problems people have directly on it.

I've heard good things, I'll consider it. Have an opinion of Google Chrome?

Memory leaks were a major problem in v.2, but I haven't had any problems with them since v.3. Just other problems. :)
