Finding your port for P2P

So there's a button when you're hosting a P2P game to tell you your IP, and in the past it used to tell me my ip and port. But now it doesn't work anymore, and my port changes every time I host.

Does anyone know how to tell what port you're hosting on or how to always make sure you're hosting on the same port?

Otherwise I can't host P2P anymore, which is dumb.

Use a different version of kaillera.dll. The version I have allows me to choose the port, before I've hosted of course, so it's kind of "static". If you want I can upload it for you.

EDIT: Also, I've found that if you just give your opponent your public IP (without the port attached), they can usually connect, which in this case knowing your port would be irrelevant.

+1

The client doesn't need to know the port, only the server does (and only for port forwarding purposes, which may not be a problem).

My port never followed what I put in that box, and 27886 never worked... but I didn't know you didn't have to use the port, so thanks for that

well, when you don't add a port to the ip address it automatically appends :27886 because :27886 is the default port it uses but you can override that by adding a different one like :27885. Just make sure you have that port opened, though.

first, port is needed in some cases, with the new router we got when we moved ip only did not work anymore, second, for some people the game isnt hosted on the 27886 port even if you set it to that.

if people can't connect to you with only the ip i recommend that you download tcpview, its a program which shows which port a program uses once you start it.

There is no solution, at least for my problem and I assume you have the same problem as me. The whatismyipbutton always worked, but if I use a program to search for the right port it gives the one I put in the kaillera client (but the program doesn't use the port I say it has to use). So if anyone knows a solution I could host p2p again.

MarioReincarnate,

To find your global ip (the one that you give to other people), I recommend going to http://www.whatismyip.com . I use the n02 client for everything, and it always hosts on the port in the "use port:" box, which is 27886 by default.

The client and server do both need to specify the port, although the client can omit the port if and only if the default port of 27886 is being used by the host.

The other thing I have to add is to make sure that any software or hardware firewall (like a router) allows access to whatever port you decide to host on.

Hope this helps,
Owna

i have written a really small java executable which finds your ip and enters it straight into the clipboard for quick copying, i can upload it if anyone is interested.

The problem is that on some connections, pj64k uses a different port than the one you want it to use. From the time that the whatismyipbutton worked, I remember that my ports were always in a range (from 30000 to 35000 or whatever, I forgot) so I just opened all of those ports. But I had to use the whatismyipbutton to know which port the program was actually using, and now there isn't really a way to find that out.
