Other than turning off tap jump and rumble I don't really customize my controls. I should consider it though since it could make my life easier but I've been playing with default controls since Melee so it be a rough transition.

I turn off tap jump cuz I hate jumping when i mean to tilt/smash. Rumble off to extend the controllers life. My L button is set to jump to make OOS options easier since tap jump is off, and I've changed c-stick into a tilt-stick.

Tap Jump off, R is set to jump, C-stick set to attack. Might change X to shield whenever I finally start practicing perfect parry option select stuff.

Play around with it for yourself. Use what's comfortable for you. :D

Tap jump off and C-stick tilts are the generic ones I have. The ones I use unique to me are Y still as jump, R as grab, L and ZL as shield, and ZR as jump in case a tech needs it.

is r set to jump because you dont have tap to jump? is it to benefit your aerial attacks or something?

Both, I find Meta Knight's u-air combos easier to do with R set to jump and also since I don't have tap jump it lets me do jump cancelled out of shield stuff more easily, like U-smash and Up-b. I use the Y button to jump for everything else
