I've decided to make a list of all of the franchises currently known to be represented in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and what kind of update that franchise has not been given. They are listed in the order they appear as icons on the official website.

I've made some changes to my list, as you kind people pointed out some points that I'd missed. The number of updates days left now is 47, and I have 73 possible updates on my list, now that I've taken all the Special Moves and Final Smashes into account.

I've decided to remove the possibility of getting a character with the Smash Bros. logo, as it seems to me that any franchise getting a character gets it's own icon. Some of the assist trophies don't have their own icon, and are given the Smash Bros. icon. This probably means that Tamagon from devil world won't be playable, and also strengthens the probability of an Animal Crossing character! Huzzah!

I did think that, but considering Pokemon got a character that wasn't actually a Pokemon, I see no reason to assume that it won't get an assist trophy (Prof. Oak/Brock/Misty, etc.).

Aren't all the non-playable-franchise Assist Trophies, such as Devil and Dr.Wright, considered "Smash Bros"? They all get the World 1 Icon for their update.

BTW this is an interesting thread, and although your theory is interesting as well, it is PROBABLY just a creepy coincidence

You should count ANYTHING character related as "Character" . This way we could start counting down the update and crossing these things off the list to see how many get answered. I doubt all 48 of these will get an update, considering there are also Game Modes and How To Play updates as well.

All in all...pretty interesting thread. =]

beyond that, EVERYTHING will be a suprise, though not necessarily a pleasant one.

Original post has been updated, and is now correct (I think).

Mr Resetti, of course, counts for the Animal Crossing assist trophy, all that remains is a character!

Lookin' good! I think adding the Special Moves / Final Smash was a nice idea, but it also makes the list more confusing due to there being multiple characters per franchise most of the time.

For example Pokemon, you say we have yet to recieve Special Moves, but we have, just not for Pikachu. And visa versa - Pikachu has his Final Smash but PT does not.
Maybe put the related character name in parenthesis next to each Special Move or Final Smash? So

Also, can anybody give me an estimate of the number of game mode/how to play updates we think we'll get? I want to incorporate them but I don't want to just guess by myself. There's 8 more weeks left, and we've got 5 catagories (Smash ABC, Tequniques, Game Modes, Adventure and WiFi) to think about, although I don't think we'll get any more Smash ABC updates, somehow. I think about 10 more...

He didn't post it in the usual way, and he didn't give us much information, but he did give us screen shots and the names of the applicable moves. It's up to you whether or not to update the "gaps" list accordingly.

I don't want to suddenly press assumptions onto a list like this, but I think this slot has been next to confirmed as being Game and Watch, because it fits right between the 2 other Melee-debuting franchises and is also an apparent favorite of Sakurai's. Removing a whole franchise like that would be kinda bad...

Anyway, if this does end up being true, I think seeing a G&W-related item or assist trophy will be pretty unlikely unless it's an actual Game and Watch game, because Mr. G&W ends up using a lot of notable objects and characters from his games already in all of his attack animations. And since there's going to be a Final Smash, he's probably going to use yet another title or two for that one too.
I doubt there would be a 2nd representative for a franchise like that either, so you could just keep the ones I haven't talked about as they are anyway!
