If you're continuously getting hit by link's up-b then you're either getting too predictable or you need to be a bit more smarter with your approach.

An easy way to get through it is simply by shielding it then punishing with a smash or an aerial or whatever. Link's up-b can only only hit you once, and if the hit that registers is on your shield, then the Link is pretty much helpless for the rest of the duration of the up-b. If the link player just spams that attack, learn to draw it out with some wavedashing and move in for the punishment. You can also approach the up-b safety from the air with fairs, but make sure you're high enough when you get in range.
Also, remember that you're sword is longer than link's.

"More smarter?" Never have I seen such a great combination of words.

Randizzle is right on everything, though. Keep in mind that if he misses you with the Up+B, there's a pretty good amount of lag after the attack where you can do anything. Line up for a tipper while he spins around at nothing.

Righto, agreed on what ran said but you really need to get into the habit of predicting and reacting to opponents if that simple situation became a big problem.

lol they made a name for wavedashing backwards.

By the way, a scrub changes depending on your skill level. For the top pros, I'm a scrub since they can 4 stock me. :) Don't talk badly of scrubs, because you are a scrub to someone else. In other words, you might as well take the term "scrub" out of your vocabulary.

You have tons of options for faking out your link opponent. His up B spamage makes him incredibly predictable, so you could:

- dash dance in then out then punish or run in and wavedash out then punish
- run right up to fsmash range to crouch cancel then either punish or fsmash
- run up to him and when you see him begin his up B, cancel your dash with a shield. Then wavedash out of shield to grab.

Wavedashing out of shield is a crucial skill to learn because it allows marth to punish laggy moves.

A good way to punish is by grabbing or dash attack.

and make sure when his continual spin attack eats it, you say,
"oh, what? BAM! mindgaaaamez!"
nah, don't, that's just dumb... who'd even suggest something like that anyway?
