How the hell do you do it? You can zair them and you can't short hop aerial them. Projectile spam only works until they get too close. So how do you fight them?

Dsmash is Samus' best friend against small characters, especially ones that roll around a lot.

Utilt and jab are ok too. Once you nail the timing zair is ok for most small characters except Kirby and Squirtle, you're better off not zairing them period unless they are in the air.

Small characters overall are a really bad matchup for her, especially the rat who is quite possibly her worst matchup IMO. Kirby and Squirtle are also really annoying.

If they're too close to spam missiles against it becomes rather difficult to land any air move, so I usually stay on the ground unless I'm going off for a gimp kill. Lots of shield-dashing (especially to powershield projectiles). Grabs, jabs, lots of d-angled ftilts, dtilts, dsmashs, uncharged shots, screw attack. While none of them are amazing or combo as nicely as they would against a larger foe you still have a number of options to go through to keep from being to terribly predictable or having the dtilt's KO power lessened by overuse.

I usually focus more on trying to get them off the stage where the fight is a bit more equal than racking up damage.

Just either down-A them, or d-Smash them. Then just combo it out in the air. Remember that smaller = lighter, so don't hold back on spikes or kicks!

Olimar is my bane. i just can't seem to get him. For his size the priority is ridiculous. Its a hard fought game each match. Just can't get attacks off on these small characters. I miss my old Samus with her missiles of knockback doom

Down tilt.

Also, uncharged plasma shots. It's probably not working in virtue of their smallness, but I have to say, it just happens to screw a lot of them up.

The Pika matchup is weird. It seems like Samus should at least be even with the rat, but the electricity is just... really disruptive, for some reason. Can't tell why that is.

Frickin' Dsmash. . .
