Inspired by one of the few intelligent threads, the one about the possibilities of items in a high level of play for Brawl, I wondered this:

Since Brawl is going to be a lot more balanced than either of it predecessors were, what about FFA?

In Melee, I've been told FFA isn't possible because of XXX char being able to do YYY and that = win.

In Brawl though, with it being more balanced, I don't think the game will play like that. (Don't even say Ike, just don't)

It is my opinion, that a game like Brawl should have it's multiplayer played to the fullest. I agree with the idea that if items are more balanced and controlled (no exploding crates, bomb-ombs, etc) then they should be played with. Thus I think that if the FFA scene does turn out to be balanced, then FFA tournaments should be allowed/supported.

Note: Ike does not win FFA. It's been said he's very effective in FFA, but remember.
-New physics engine = less combos, so he's not going to **** everyone or anything like that

-Mindgames son:
This is so important, and why I think FFA should be allowed:

You might say Ike would own everyone, but wouldn't it require an awareness of everyone to avoid that? My understanding of it is that to play FFA would take a different kind of skill. Similar to how CTF != Team Slayer on Halo. It would take a special kind of skill, to be able to coordinate 4 characters, as well as a special kind of skill in determining what move to use.

In 1v1's, it's very simplified, the mind games are apparent and devastating: how am I going to attack, how am I going to do XXX, what will they do? etc.

And I think, that in an FFA, that will be magnified and the amount of skill required will be increased.

No. Because FFA promotes stalling to a greater extent and allows for team up against better players at the very beginning of the match just because they know if they don't write away that they will lose, and since there is no way to gain yourself back and have tides turn it doesn't work. For these reasons allow FFA in tournaments does not work and makes it less about skill of the game.

Team matches are infinitely better.

I'd argue that FFA don't really take skill. In all honesty you can just wait in a corner while the others beat the crap out of themselves, and pick off the straglers. and even if you see it happen, you can't do anything about it cause two people are constantly beating you down.

also on all reports, Ike doesn't need to combo, most of his moves kill at low percentages anyway. and just because it's a new physics engine doesn't mean their won't be combos, because there will be combos in any fighting game.

FFA are chaotic by nature. and chaor doesn't exactly showcase skill, as it's a compliment to luck.

I play FFAs all the time with the brothers. Is it fun? Yes. But is it a good showcase of who's best or not? Not even close. Team-ups, hiding while the others beat each other up, holding someone still as Samus fires a full-charge shot... good times. But not by any means a better show of skill than 1v1 and 2v2.

I like gambling as much as any normal person, but that doesn't mean too many people are going to travel around the country just to enter what's functionally a lottery.

^Pretty much the truth.

Balance and physics issues have nothing to do with why FFAs are not in Melee tournaments, so there is nothing that Brawl can do to fix that. Tournament players pride themselves on winning with their own skills. If someone lurks in a match, only to get involved in the fight to deliver a kill, that totally defeats the purpose of putting your own money in the tournament pot. At least in team matches, if someone is lurking like that, there's someone to go attack them.

FFAs will be awesome in Brawl, don't get me wrong, but thinking it could surface on the tournament level is kinda ridiculous.
