Hola. I am farely new to Marth and SSBM, so I just have a few questions and such..

Should I be spending more time attacking people in the air or on the ground as Marth?

Short Hopping. I know what it is, I know how to do it.. I just can't do it consistently. For some reason, I just can not short hop well. Any tips in this area?

Edge Hogging. I'm not too great on getting on the ledge with my first jump. Well, any tips?

I find that his FSmash and BSmash are easy to spam/do well..
Should I not be spamming these as much?

Is it better to USmash an opponent above me or to jump and use an aerial?

Thanks in advance, I appreciate your assistance. :)

Hey, well, I'll be glad to help you out as I'm kind of an avid Marth player.

1.You should be spending more time attacking people in the air with FAirs and such but attack on the ground does fairly well, Fsmashes, Dtilts, and grabs are essential for Marth on the ground.

2.Short hopping is hard, it takes a lot of practice to master so practice it! Anyways, for tips, I'd say press the jump button REALLY fast and let go of it asap, like when you touch an steaming iron.

3.You should be able to get the hang of it sooner or later. I personally wavedash backwards to edgehog like in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TKt5lVKNnc
Or, if you're not a fan of wavedashing, you could always short hop backwards to grab the edge.

4.You should never be spamming moves like the Fsmash and Bsmash because if you get predictable, you'll get severely punished. Just make sure you be spontaneous with your moves and mix them up a little.

5.You shouldn't be using the USmash ever. The USmash is no doubt one of Marth's worst smashes. You should use his aerials, that's his strength. You could also use the Utilt to hit/juggle opponents above you.

Hope this helps ;)

it may be because you are trying to hit too far towards the tip of the blade. i would say until you get used to exactly how far marth's sword extends, don't try to perfectly tip it every time, because that will lead to your situation. strike your opponent with any part of the sword below the first 1/4 part of the blade starting from the hilt at least until you get completely used to marth's reach.

if the opponent keeps dodging you, they are probably just better than you or your getting a little predictable. try to add some variety to your attacks to prevent them from catching on to your fighting style. (no offense intended)

I have a question too. my headache is when they hit me and I have to wait some time before I can make my air jump or perform my aerial moves. I saw some videos on youtube and most of the time I see human players that are hit by strong attacks (like samus' charged shot or falcon's kee) and inmediatly they strike back, even on high %. how the hell can I do this?
please answer my question because striking back at such speed is a good move.
I don't have a gamecube, so I can't practice my game too much. if you know how to improve my game with some strategies please send them to friosmash@yahoo.com subject: marth's strategies.

PS: if you speak spanish feel free to practice with me as I'm practicing english on this forums.

Thanks for reading.

I like the Y then A attack for my air assualt. As for anything else related to Marth I would say that I am just learning about him...I've been converted over from the Captian Falcon bandwagon.
