FD versions of stages actually different

Okay so if you notice, some FD stages have ledges that have the walls below them, like green hill zone, and ledges that don't, like battlefield. Also maybe there are other differences such as blast zones?

So, characters with things like wall cling might prefer one FD stage over the other, and things like that. There will be other factors to consider too of course. Now, in terms of picking stages in tournaments, this might screw some things up. The stage striking system would be weird if the majority of legal stages are FD variations, and there are probably quite a few of them. But some might argue that there will be differences big enough to merit having several of them considered legal? Maybe have one version with the walls and one without? Or just stick to default FD?

What do you guys think about this?

Most likely, the FD variants will only be available in For Glory mode.

If they are going to be available in offline play, I would expect them to also have a BF variant for each stage as well.

In terms of tourney-play, I would stick with default FD.

P.S. We can't confirm if they are, indeed, actually "different".

We can visibly see, in the pictures, that they keep the same ledge style as the base stage (walls/slopes/undersides), and that they are different sizes (width) in accordance to the base stage. So it's already confirmed that they do have differences which would theoretically affect competitive play (of course, it's not confirmed whether FD Mode is available offline right now).

Based on those changes, we can also assume at this point that they would keep the blast zone differences as well.

It has been confirmed that this is not the case, as items have appeared on FD variants.

Anyways OP. It's rather simple. Default FD as the only starter, but allow the other FD to be used in counter picking but still be counted as one stage. This way the player that succesfully counterpicks to FD can then pick the one that would suite them best however if the opposing player wants to ban FD they don't have to worry about the other variants either.

Sakurai "I want that player to be able to enjoy all the musical pieces and visual details the game has"
But you want to go with default FD...

Yea, how dare he, having preferences for what stage he'd like to play on!

The point is that the stages are different on a technical level, not just an aesthetic one. Since having them all would likely skew the stage select system, having only default FD is the easiest way to avoid further complications. But still, I just wanted to bring to light the the options we have been presented with and consider their implications.

It has already been confirmed that these are available outside of FG mode. We've seen a clip of Rosalina using her FS on the FG version of the super mario galaxy stage, something that wouldn't be possible in FG mode.

If Stage Builder comes back, I hope we can use FD versions of stages as templates to make more tourney friendly stages.

I don't think every stage has to be flat and empty to enjoy; I feel the Battlefield FD version is stupid as Battlefield was already a tourney-friendly stage.
