Has anyone else noticed any smashers that seem to be making waves or getting extremely stong?

My favorites are:
Axe
Hugs

Axe was fighting M2K in the last PM tournament and TRADING WITH HIM! He lost in the end, but it was an amazing set that made me realize how much Axe is growing .
Hugs just was fighting Armada on Super Smash Sunday and he was ALMOST winning his sets. One set could almost be completely blamed on Armada pulling double Stichface as well.
Hugs is now currently playing M2K and he's doing fairly well, though he's 2 stocked match 1, but 1 stock match 2, now 2 stock match 3. Downside is it seems Sheik hard counters Samus ><
(Jab and Needles counter all projectiles, Up B can be pretty much be tanked and then Sheik can Fair right out of it...)

They are my current favorites for taking top 5 spots. What about you guys?

Leffen... Leffen.... More Leffen....
Fiction (has shown growth/potential since apex)
Westballz
Maybe... PPU... He seems to be noticeably getting better lately.
Maybe Hax....
Did I mention Leffen?...
You should really say top 6.

Also, Samus and Pikachu will never be in the top 5 players... If Axe truly picked up Fox or Falco instead of a pocket Falco I could see it.

You can't use PM results to determine who's top 5 in melee lol
Leffen and Westballz are the big 2 that I see. Leffen is probably one of the gods already. I think Wes has the ability, he just needs to be more consistent.

I think Axe is on the brink of being one of the elite. He use to do okay against Mew2King years ago, but now he's on the verge of beating him. Out of all top 10 players that aren't one of the "Melee Gods", I think Axe is the only one that does well against all of them. Respect to Axe for sticking with a character that wasn't taken serious and making it a threat.

I think PewPewU is almost there, but I don't know for sure. He's definantly top 10 of course.

I think aMSa will get there one day. He's extremely intelligent and improves so much so fast. I'd like to see him fight more of the top 5 so he can prove himself more. As it is he's been playing like, maybe 2 years, and he's already beating Westballz caliber players and almost took Leffen out. Insane.

I think Fiction is close, but I think some match ups do him in. Props to him for taking out Mew2King last night.

I am all for someone being selfish and claim themselves. Who's got the drive to beat those people and become the dark horse?

The closest one to the top 5 (IMO is already in the top 5) is Leffen. He's taken multiple sets off of Armada (rust johns) and came close to beating Mango as well.

My current list, subject to change based on MLG/EVO results:
1. PP
2. Mango
3. Armada
4. M2K
5. Leffen
5. Hbox
7. Westballz, Fiction, Hax, Shroomed, PPU, SFAT, Axe

Leffen is the obvious pick here.

I think people like SFAT, Fiction, Westballz, Axe, etc are all a bit bellow him. Not to say that those guys aren't good, though. If they play incredible they might have what it takes.

Hax, if he stops playing Fox. And I don't mean he has a better chance if he stops playing Fox, I just don't like his Fox, it's boring to watch.
Then again, 90% of Fox's are incredibly boring to me. I understand that he's good and the person playing him wants to win, but there is absolutely no other character that showcases less innovation or creativity on a regular basis as Fox. Almost everybody plays him exactly the same, and it's usually just a matter of who's better at doing that exact same thing.

I have to disagree.... you can see a lot of people's playstyles through fox. When you see Chillin's fox vs Mango's fox, there are so many differences. I see where you're coming from, saying that most foxes aren't very creative, but that is certainly not the case for all foxes. And you could use that logic for all characters - "All Falcon's like to grab and knee.. All sheik does is tilt... etc etc.."

A fox that is on point is really fun to watch, especially Mango's fox <3

This just shows how much you don't understand about the game.

It's really only a noticeable difference in very high caliber players. This is where the problem comes from.
It's because the lower caliber players are only trying to emulate what they saw the better players doing.

Well, are you saying that you don't try to emulate what pro Falcons do? I mean, if you see something that the pros do that works, you try it. That's how I improved and learned new things about the game and metagame

The key word in what I said is "only". It's a problem because they don't put enough thought into what their enemy is doing and what they need to be doing to win, and are putting too much thought into what they saw another player that isn't them do to overcome an opponent that isn't their opponent.
EDIT: Also, I watch very little Smash. I play a lot, but I watch very little. You can form whatever opinion of that fact that you want.
