Fated Matchups.

This is something I enjoy a lot, and I'm wondering if others have the same experience.

So a "fated matchup" has nothing to do with your personal feelings on any character. It's not like "Omg another captain falcon I hate playing them", it's more "Omg yes this is going down in Nintendo canon". If anyone here remembers the fated battle system in Soul Calibur, you always have a battle with your character's so-called "rival" right before the end of arcade mode.

For example, I frequently like playing as my Dedede online, and no match gets me hyped up like matches against a good Kirby. It just feels right and it helps that the matchup is actually pretty fun anyway. Kirby's hitboxes come out super quick and he can combo D3 for days, but D3 only needs a few well-placed hits to put Kirby at KO %. I met a very good Kirby online the other day, and we played about 15 matches as opposed to the For Glory average of 1-2. So much fun just comboing and edge guarding each other like crazy with our six jumps and infinite recoveries.

Do you guys have any matchups like this that you get pumped for? (Either a canonic rival or just someone from your series, like Mario vs. Luigi) Let's hear about em.

Unlike most people around here, fighting against Little Mac in the right hands gets me really excited.

Not really what I had in mind but I guess we could extend the topic to your personal rival as well.

I'd say my personal fated character is someone like Rosalina. Pretty much the yin to my yang.

Palutena vs Ganondorf probably should be my fated matchup considering its a battle between the Goddess of Light and the King of Darkness, but the matchup is pretty heavily in favor of Palutena, so it isn't often that I find a Ganondorf on FG that is able to adapt enough in order to pose much of a threat to me. Edit:I will admit that it awesome when I find a Ganondorf that knows how to deal with Palutena though.

Palutena vs Ike is probably closer to my actual fated matchup. I love facing Ike players when I play Palutena simply because both characters have the tools to take an early stock off the other, so we both have to play near perfectly.

I like Palu VS Dorf though.

Always feels good to go up against a Mario character as Bowser. The King of Koopas is always ready to clean house against a Plumber or a Cosmic Goddess.

I don't know why, but everytime I've faced Diddy as Luigi I've gotten hyped for the battle of the 'seconds'. Their similar playstyles make it even more interesting, of course, but something about butterfeet versus bananas just strikes me as really thematically fitting.

Added to that, Luigi vs Bowser always feels pretty neat, or Robin versus another Fire Emblem character...

...but none compare to my excitement to see a match of Sonic versus Megaman. Two characters we'd never thought would happen, and that I'm soooo glad did... That said, I'm not good enough with either of them to actually see that match much. XD

Characters from the same series are always going to be fun matchups, especially when one is a hero, and the other a rival/villain.

I like seeing it in a Subspace Emissary- like fashion and have characters fight cross-universe, but still have it make sense. Like what @ Nexin said.

Samus vs Falcon is fun because if you have a creative imagination, you can think of them fighting over turf on bounties, etc. Unless it's on a silly looking stage like Woolly World. Then it's a little hard.

Naw, but in all seriousness any of the matches that will give a character specific win-quote get me hyped. -and outside of those there's the obvious ones like Mario Vs. Bowser, too. But there's a few that I see as fated that aren't neccisarily so obvious. Usually because I love when fights have clashing voice clips or similar themed characters.
(See: "You're not ready." - "Ready when you are.")

vs.is the most interesting one to me though, even if I only rarely play Shulk out of the two of them. Both are projectileless sword users with their own special swords, and both fight in order to change the future in their respective games.
Especially cool if the winner gets either "The future is ours to decide!" or "The future is not written!" as their win quote. :D

That's a good one, and it's kind of funny because Luigi is one of Diddy's worst matchups too. Never would've thought of that.
