Falcon in Doubles

I am attending a tournament this weekend. Coming from a region which does not play much doubles, I wanted to read up on Falcon tips for doubles, but there does not seem to be a thread explicitly for it?

Was hoping to have some discussion about what role falcon plays, what style of play is good, what moves we should be throwing out etc. in doubles?

For example I reckon raptor boost is good since there is less of a punish for missing and it is harder to see it coming.

Also, I will have a fox teams partner, so any advice on how to work well with him?

a lot of the stuff you're gonna do in teams is super situational. In my experience from my matches my teammate and I switch between support and aggressor a lot. Some people don't switch it up and stay as one role the whole time. So discuss what you guys are doing.

I can talk from the switch up perspective but things you need to discuss indefinitely are Edge guarding (who holds ledge and who stays on stage), When to team combo (should you jump after certain hits/throws), and if you like to clump and stay together or separate. For example, I teamed with a shiek and if he's chain grabbing or tech chasing I stay away from him and try to keep the other guy away. Or if I'm not occupied I try to cover a tech option that they can't. Sometimes he'll hit them toward me and then I try to hit them back to him.

that can be applied to a bunch of stuff though. Falcon specifically, abuse his run speed, you can be wherever whenever. Help out your teammate, if they're getting hit just drop your combo and hit the other guy. If they're not paying attention it can turn tides. If you hit someone off stage only edge guard if you can immediately edge guard. If you have to wait for their recovery then your time is better spent helping your partner.

Falcon can also do a little bit riskier stuff with someone watching him. Like throwing out some knees in neutral to pressure people instead of nairs. also just watch what your teammate's doing to see if you can come in with a kill move out of nowhere. Falcon can really catch people not paying attention.

Most important, do not go for the long, extended combos we all love. go for short things that put people off stage. if you're team comboing try to do back and forth. don't get greedy and end up hitting each other.

Don't Knee your teammate. You'd be surprised how hard this is. Space moves such that they won't hit your teammate, and then combo from soft hits into a finisher.
I teamed with a stranger (Luigi player) at a tournament last weekend... I felt so awkward after I kneed him like 20 times in our doubles games, both friendlies and tournament sets. Glad to know others have problems not doing this.

If you watch high level doubles most teams still hit each other, you're not always gonna be on the same page. so don't sweat it just remember spacing is huge in doubles, and remember it's ok. Just with falcon it can be deadly hahaha
