I'm going to see if I can update the organization of the Falcon Boards to better focus our discussions. Here's my proposal:

Falcon Character Specific
  • Strategy
  • Social

The logic behind this should be clear - we have our own community where we like to talk about strat and be social in general. The only difference is that the "Strategy" board will be policed a little more, not as far as infractions go but as far as keeping/deleting posts.

Strategy will be constantly guided towards constructive conversation, and we should attack one topic at a time. Everyone should attempt to moderate the discussion. Here is what I think it should look like:

Strategy
  • Practice Guide
  • Stage/Matchup Guide
  • Q&A

Social will have all else, and won't be limited to ONLY social, we should blend them together, like we do in the existing S2J / Scar threads. I'm not completely sure where to put a video thread and the frame data by the way. They could be embedded in here somewhere.

Please reply by saying "APPROVE" or "DISAPPROVE" regarding whether the forum should be updated at all. Then, include your suggestions and comments.

For sure. Ideas about the structure? Does that look good? Some key questions I'd like people to answer:

-Do the names of the proposed categories work?
-Are there any existing or new topics that wouldn't intuitively fit in the proposed structure?
-Would you like to add any more categories?

IMO, I think you pretty much have all the important categories covered.

Cool. I'd also like to further segment the "strategy" section by adding a "think tank" area, which will be the home for collaborating and thinking outside the box regarding how to make 2012 the Year of the Falcon.

Where would the video critique section go?

Also, there's all these "facts" that are listed out in 0room's thread that he has collected over a long period of time. He put in a lot of effort to gather all the posts and information...

I think whoever started the current falcon video thread gave up.

I think we should have 2 video sections (perhaps just sub sections in one thread)

1. Classic historical falcon matches (dating as far back as isai... to other great old videos)

2. Recent tournament videos where people can study relevant matches that are updated to the recent MBR rules and metagame (no point watching matches being played on poke floats or mute city)
-studying matches of how isai played vs pros back then isn't really that useful as looking at recent videos of s2j, hax and now scar again.
-I say this section should only go as far back as Genesis 1 (and keep building up to the latest tournament sets)

=============

Perhaps we should use the LEAN method of startup for the revamp of falcon forums

Good points, Ive been gleaning quite a lot of info from recent vids, most notably scar's vids from the deep and random s2j matches here and there. If we're going LEAN, luckily we've got the resident lean guru at the helm.

lol That's what I'm doing :p but to discover what's going to deliver value I'm asking everyone what they use the boards for, and what's important to them.

The only issue I see with having 2 threads is, when do we move "old" videos to the old video section? What's the cutoff point? I think we should have one video manager (I don't have the time for sure) and a clear set of guidelines based on what everyone wants to see out of a video thread.

It's probably better just to have ONE video thread with two sub sections in the first post.

I envision it would be something like the following format:

FALCON TOURNAMENT VIDEOS THREAD:

(Collapsed section)
Archived significant Old videos - as of now I suggest everything before Genesis 1-
-List of youtube links categorized by tournaments (in brackets, whom was playing)
-The list of tournament videos would be sorted chronically

(Collapsed Section)
Videos of falcon in tournaments from Genesis 1 and above
(same format as Archived Old videos)

Whenever we move stuff into archived collapsed section, it'll just be a matter of editing the First Post. Cut and Paste the link from one section to the other super easy.

Who's going to do it?

I can't do it, I'm about to graduate undergrad and start graduate school most likely but I can definitely help by scavenging videos and contribute to organization.

I tried to make an organized Stage Thread for C.Falcon but I didn't have the time to keep it organized as I wish I could have.

I think it would be interesting to try and do it.. but I don't think I have enough smash experience

I think the video thread should be organized by Player>Character>Date/Tournament. So something like:
DARKRAIN
Fox
Falco
Jiggs

SILENTSPECTRE
SCAR

This is kind of how it's done on the fox boards and I think it makes a lot of sense. Splitting the video thread into NEW and CLASSIC just seems too confusing. And personally, organizing it by tournament doesn't make much sense. I don't watch videos depending on what tournament it's from. I watch videos depending on who's playing. Also, organizing it by player would kind of organize it by new and classic.

I switched from the falco forums and they had a sticky for critiquing other people's falco videos as opposed to a compendium which we have.

I like the idea of a Lean revamp. :D
I approve wholeheartedly!

I'm just wondering about how where video critique would go and how the Falcon video compendium would work. I like adechrist's idea for the compendium, having it be separated by player name with the date, matchup, and tournament labeled for easy classification. As for the video critique, though, I very much enjoy that thread and I still think that it's very helpful to keep it as its own thread so that there can be focused discussion on the videos posted there.

So, I like this layout a lot:

Falcon Character Specific
  • Strategy
  • Social
But I'm just wondering where the video critique would go along with the video compendium. Maybe it could be something like this?:

Falcon Character Specific
  • Strategy
  • Social
  • Video

And that way videos could be in their own section so that they're easy to find and the discussion stays focused on the videos. Just a thought.

Or we could have videos under Strategy and have it be like this:

Strategy
  • Practice Guide
  • Stage/Matchup Guide
  • Q&A
  • Video Critique
  • Video Reference/Discussion/Compendium/What have you

Again, just a thought.
EDIT: After thinking about it, I agree with adechrist's idea on video organization/classification based on Player>Matchup>Date/Tournament. It would be massively clean and tidy and would be easy to find stuff that people are looking for.

Also, I love the idea of a "Think Tank" area.
And maybe Frame Data could just go under Strategy. It wouldn't be too out of place, I think.

Also, I would be open to helping organize the video compendium. I don't know about "running it" per se, but I'd be happy to lend a hand with organization and stuff to keep it all organized and neat.

Yes Actually. this is better!!!

Way better.

I am behind this format.

The division sorting order would be.

1st by Player (Darkrain, Hax, S2J, Scar, SilentSpectre)
then within each player category, sort by matchup (fox, falco, falcon, peach, etc.)
then sort videos within each matchup by date with newest on top.

DONE.

good format

How about, first by color of falcon main :p

then by player, then by matchup

This sounds really good. I'll propose it to the mods and see if I can get someone to help me create the structure.

I'm glad someone likes this idea. And don't forget ISAI! lol

Since we're talking about reorganizing the Falcon board I think it would be cool to hear new ideas for threads.

One thread idea I had that I think would be really cool, is if there was a video discussion thread. But instead of it being for new or average players, it would be for the top players. There could be a new video that we discuss every week. We could talk about what they did that was really good. We could debate what we think top players could have done better. We could ask why they did one move in a certain situation rather than another.

One week we might discuss S2J vs Armada at Apex. Maybe another week we could compare strategies by watching SilentSpectre vs Sfat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49AtGvWzW6g and Scar vs Sfat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otSMgRWkY0U.

Idk how well this would work, but I think it could be interesting. It could potentially help a lot of people. Plus I think a thread like this would be a lot more popular and therefore more helpful (the more people that discuss the more good ideas are made) than the video critique thread that we have now which is nearly dead, since no one really likes watching mediocre players like me play.

I like that idea a lot. Exactly like you said, we could have one video per week. It would be sort of to deconstruct someone's play and figure out what's good / bad about it. That sounds sick. I think it's very obvious that we need a dedicated video thread.

We have one! ! It is called 0 room's falcon video critique thread. Almost everyone use it. I am still waiting on people to critique my latest video that I posted. :(

I would love if there was a separation like the following:
-Guides/Questions
-Video and Tournament Discussion and Critique
-Social

But I guess the last two really end up bleeding into eachother, so Scar's setup is okay by me.
