Which is more of a reliable method, C-Stick or using A with the direction of the desired smash? Is one faster than the other or are both methods performed at the same speed? (Input wise so the game performs it)

Using the c stick is faster because it is only one input rather than two (a+direction). The c stick also allows you to control your direction in the air (DI) while attacking at the same time. Benefits to using the traditional smash (a+direction) are that you can charge it and choose when to release.

I use C stick for both aerials (aside from nair obviously) and smashes. C-stick smashes are much more consistent for me than A.

C-stick is faster as there is no check for charged smash input. If you did an smash attack with the control stick and if you holded just long enough (even if it is just a split of a second) the game may think you want to charge the attack and thus resulting in a slower reaction time.

What I'm trying to say is that there may be a little bit of room for error when you try to smash without using the c-stick and we all know (or at least most of us) that a single mistake on a match against a good opponent might cause you to get combod and lose a lot of % or even lose a stock.

In my opinion at the end of the day is a matter of personal preference. However, I would like to mention that I find C-stick + z useful to charge and smash attack while preserving forward momentum (in the case of luigi's wavedash) and is also easier for up smash oos (out of shield).
