f-smashing over the edge

What's the proper spacing for f-smashing people when they're hanging onto the edge? What percentage of the sword should go over the edge? Any advice?

Well, first of all there is an invincibility period when people grab onto the ledge that lasts for about 1.5 seconds (I think). Ideally you want to hit them with the tip of your sword, because it has more knockback than a normal hit. However, any part of your sword will work. You could also try using a down tilt; it works great.

yeah...if you were to play good opponents, you should never rely on opponents hanging on the ledge long enough for them to get hit.

dtilt is the way to go in this situation. its the quickest attack that marth has in this situation. dtilt is a very quick attack, and allows you to force them off the edge (unless they are ledge camping with invincibility frames) and be able to recover from the lag fast enough to adapt to whatever they do off the ledge.
