There are 8 compatible controllers for Smash 4. The answer to your question is yes, though in case you're wondering here are the compatible controllers.
-Wii remote
-Wii remote + nunchuk
-Gamecube controller (gamecube adapter required, obviously)
-Classic Controller/Classic Controller Pro
-Wii U Gamepad
-3DS (you have to own Smash 3DS)
-Wii U Pro Controller
