I'm not sure if anyone even made a thread pertaining to this, but it was something I just notice when I was checking the difference of my Gamecube controller and pro-controller for the Wii U. I know that the new smash isn't going to have Gamecube support, but I notice something different on the pro controller (and gamepad) that Gamecube (and classic and Numchuck). And no its not just the appearance of them, its actually a small feature that could open up a lot of potential for the meta-game and controls for smash series (or at least for the Console version). if you look at the Left Analog control stick and c-stick for gamecube and the pro controller's Left/Right analog stick, you'll know notice that the pro controller has the click down button Feature that playstationa and xbox's controller's have (L3/R3) and that right there would open more for the smash series as far moves (regular moves), specials (having potienally 8 specials), controlling two character ie: Ice climbers and Rosalina and luma, combos, options, and etc. Even I would prefer to use the gamecube controller for the next smash, the fact that the pro controller (and even gamepad) has that potiental, can open up doors for game, but the chances of it actually happening are low.

But tell me what you think about this concept. (and let me know if I missed anything)

and yes I'm aware of 3ds, classic controller, and numchunk not being able to do this.

I've thought over this concept multiple times.

And unfortunately, it won't work. There are too many controls schemes that this doesn't work with, and one includes the entire 3DS system itself. It would skew the balance between the two versions. The 3DS wouldn't be able to use the extra controls, and the Classic Pro, and all wiimote controls schemes would lack it. Especially for the 3DS version, this would be bad, as both versions of the game are supposed to be, essentially, equal to each other. With this, you tip the balance in favor of one version over the other.

I can only imagine the tournament shenanigans too. No Pro controller? You have a distinct disadvantage against the other players who own a Pro.

That, and clicking in the stick for a fighting game is uncomfortable, awkward, and should honestly be avoided when you get right down to it.
