so i'm trying to get better. desperately. i'm reading all the guides, i'm practicing alot(though for glory is **** for practice, its all i have), there's no offline scene for a 5 hour drive around me, i'm even trying to do carpal tunnel exercises to get my hands to move faster. is there anything else i can do or am i stuck in this position?

edit: dont take this as whining take this as begging for advice

1. Who is your character?

2. Pretend that Shiek is your opponent, on Final Destination. What is the first thing you do when you start the match? (not what you "should" do, tell me what you actually do. And why). In essence, what is your neutral game.

1. i'm hopping all over the place right now, between yoshi/sonic/bowser/ganondorf, but if there's another good character thats easy to pick up and doesnt require absurd amounts of tech skill please tell me(not diddy, those chimp noises piss me off)(also i've spent the most time on sonic)
2.well from what i've played its just run in to keep her from charging needles :ohwell:

If you don't like For Glory, I suggest Anther's Ladder. Go get involved and play some friendlies.

Honestly, just keep playing the game. Fight good people and ask for advice at every opportunity. I'm in the same situation as you with regards a local scene : I have none. The closest thing I have are my friends, but heck, being the best of those guys isn't really saying much :p

Elaborate more on the Sheik matchup. Really think about it. Surely you've played against her a lot. For example, I'd usually charge dance a light arrow, or if I've played the same Sheik a few times and I know she'll throw a needle, I'll power shield. How do you approach? I would generally shorthop Nairs if she's rushing or Fairs to close distances. If the Sheik is being careless, I'd force her to keep her distance with d-tilts. If I see her positioning herself at the ledge, I'll interrupt her Bouncing Fish with an arrow or use my Orbitars to block it. If she's predictable with grabs, I try to bait one and punish with my Upperdash.

Try to give examples of your playstyle like that. When typing that up, I realised that it's very important to know your character and what he/she is capable of. What separates you from the run of the mill Ganon/Sonic/Bowser/Yoshi? Know your character and know your opponent.

well since i use sonic the most and likely will stay sonic, i just spin dash until my opponent starts shielding(for glory really is ****), then from that point i just run up and grab the shield, then they start spotdodging, i spin dash, rinse repeat ad nauseum. also, do you know of any good people i can ask for advice from on anther's ladder? also, something i'm actually quite interested in, do you think i could drop the 4.99$ on nakat's twitch and become a candidate for zero to hero? also, once i am old enough to get a job, do you think it would be a good idea to get a job and move somewhere where there IS a scene?

I don't know much about Sonic, so I'd say to rifle through the Sonic boards for good combos and techniques to prepare for Anthers. Do I know any good people there? It won't take you long to find someone good, trust me :p But some names off the top of my head...Kweet (Sheik main), LordDarkrai (Shulk), Uber (DeDeDe), Skorpio95x (Robin). There are a ton more whose names I can't remember, or I simply haven't fought yet. Marss is holding top position on the Wii U ladder, so maybe ask him for advice if you can find him.

I have no idea what the zero to hero thing is you're talking about, sorry! If I were to move somewhere where there is a scene, it would involve leaving the country. Moving to a different area is a huge undertaking, so just make sure it has other things going for it than a smash scene! But I guess you'll know what you want when the time comes, huh?

In the stress of a match, it's easy for your thoughts to get garbled and you wind up doing a straight-up wrong play. Save your replays, and watch them. Realize what you're doing wrong. You'll notice, far more than you would expect, something like throwing out a random FSmash while the opponent is half stage, or doing a back air when the enemy is directly in front of you. Start to notice these habits and work on fixing them.

You sure you don't mean like.. a 5 or 6 year old?

Alright.... here goes..
Okay get him, hit the big green button, good work! keep hitting the big green button!
Awesome job!

no..noo take that out of your mouth! that's it, no more video games!

but uh.. on a serious note. Look up Anther's Ladder. Set up an account and you can start playing friendlies against actually decent players in actual tournament format. It's a pretty simple interface and you just have to add the player on your friends like and join his room and start playing. Generally players here a little more serious and a little less spammy, you'll get better faster than on FG.

If you're looking to just improve, pick a main, check out guides for him in the character discussion boards. What i do is go in training and try to exactly replicate impressive combos I've seen until it feels natural.

Hope this helps!

I have used Sonic extensively and he used to be my main. He is really strong in comboing without really having to set up. I mean one dash attack starts your combo most of the time. The only times I have trouble with are finishing. If you utilize versitility and learn to finish you're gold with Sonic. As for getting quality matchups you might want to share your Nintendo ID (for Wii U) or Friend Code (for 3DS) on the sharing pages to try and practice because you will meet some high quality matchups that will train how you play there.
