Thinking about purchasing a wavebird to play Smash with. Would like some input as to whether or not it has input latency or not.

Wavebird were good for their time but unless you're playing at a tournament that doesn't ban wavebirds it's probably worse then a Pro controller.

I did some rather rudimentary tests back at launch comparing a wired GC controller to a Pro, and the GC would have a frame advantage about once every ten inputs, meaning there's less then a frame of difference between those two. Adding in the time a Wavebird takes to transmit would definitely give the Pro (and presumably the Gamepad) the advantage.

That, and the Pro/Gamepad have an extra button and digital triggers rather then analogue. Basically the springy-ness on the shoulder buttons means it takes more time to press them.

Honestly, the Wavebird is good for convenience if you don't want to worry about wires or if you want to do something like play Smash at a distance (such as in your bed).
Otherwise, for a competitive setting, I wouldn't recommend it due to the frame disadvantages; they are honestly very noticeable when compared to a wired controller. Many tournaments recommend that you use a wired controller so that input lag wouldn't happen, which is a pretty big factor. Lastly, some of the Wavebirds might not work anymore; I've had my Wavebird for years and it can barely read my inputs anymore, even then I had issues playing Smash with it.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend a Wavebird controller.

Why even bother with a Wavebird when a Pro Controller is just better? I mean yes you deal with a different button layout, but if the layout is an issue you're just best off with a good ol' wired GC controller. Pro Controller has more recent wireless tracking technology built into it so it'll obvious read much better than a Wavebird.
