Hey Im new here so sorry if i missed this being posted already or if its in the wrong spot, but is anyone else as excited about the online play as me? I realize there probably wont be any rankings and ladders and such but how many times did you get stuck at home alone playing 3 level 9 computers in melee just wishing anyone would show up who wanted to play? I think the online is going to be huge for the casual gamers and for the competetive gamers, because this obviously opens up a whole new realm for tournaments. And also dont forget about all the maps that you will be able to play. anything you want in a map, BAM, you got it. That also opens up a new realm of gaming and could also be implimented in tournaments. I dont know, maybe i am the only one whose excited about this or maybe i missed it, but i mean let go of the past (wavedashing etc.) and lets look to the future. Cause to me it looks friggin bright!

Heh. I am definitely excited about online, though there are many that aren't so appreciative, because "it's not as good as X-Box Live."

I know people say it lacks a lot, but the only thing I really mind is the lack of any sort of ranking system. Playing an even match every time would have been AMAZING practice. But instead, I'll probably be owning beginners half the time and getting owned by pros the other half.
EDIT: Oh yeah, does anyone know if you can play online with two people on the same wii? I don't think it was announced, but sometimes I miss these things.

Not particularly. I enjoy playing with people I can see or who I know. The only time I play Xbox online is when my friends are on. There's nothing as satisfying as seeing someone's face when you pull a win out of your ***.

The only thing that really bugs me is the names...aside from that I'm absolutely in love with the concept and Spectator mode as well has me excited.

I agree. Of all the first postes I've seen this is one of the better ones. I got flamed by gimpy after my first post.
ON TOPIC: I don't care what anyone says, online play is a big step up for ssb. This gives people, like me, who live in smash bro ignorant enviornments people to practice agiants. There is only one decent player aside from myself where I live so I'm happy with anything.

Online is no ranking system or way to communicate is mediocre, but I'll be using it to pummel on newbs and to play people I admire on the forums.

Yes, I'm definitely excited about online play. I have quite a few friends from across the country and all, you see, and the only way that I'd be able to play them would be through this. I mean, I still have people to play with that live nearby, but the more people I'll be able to play with, the better. No longer must I suffer through Smashless nights...!
Having online play in Smash is conveniently timed for me, because these days all the guys who used to play 64 and Melee stoically with me now live in different cities due to university. Thankfully, online play will solve that little problem.

I'd like to see a ranking system. It would be wonderful.
But just the online play is good enough for me. I have four people in my town that are good, but I'm still slightly better than them. I can't wait to be able to play against anyone I want when Brawl comes out.
