Hey guys, long time lurker.. I've done a fair amount of googling and searching and haven't been able to find any answers.

I've got Project M 3.02 booted up, and I'm trying to add some custom music to Shadow Moses.

I've downloaded 2 BRSTM files from http://www.brawlcustommusic.com

- Named them appropriately and added them to the correct directories:
SD:\projectm\pf\sound\strm\S05.brstm
and
SD:\projectm\pf\sound\strm\S10.brstm

- Both are different songs, and both end up sounding incomprehensible and distorted when I play the songs on the My Music section.

- I've previewed both songs in Brawl Song Manager, and they seem to work fine there.

- The distorted song I'm hearing sounds more like the default song rather than the ones I'm trying to import.

Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong?

I've had this problem. IIRC it happens when the files aren't contiguous on the disk. Usually, if I move all the BRSTMs to my desktop, then move them back to the card, it fixes it.

Just moved all the BRSTM files (the ones included in Project M as well) to the desktop, and moved it back to the directory.. no luck :(

You can fix this either by defragmenting or by backing up then formatting your SD card (the former is easier).

Actually just attempted that as well.. moved everything, formatted back to FAT, moved over.. same thing.

I even tried using another SD card (8gb) and STILL no luck. I have no idea what could be wrong?

those who use gecko will experiense brstm explosion issues, these issues NEVER happen if riivolution is used.. i simply don't get what the appeal is behind using inferior mod loaders

I've had this problem before with many BRSTMs. It sort of sounded like the game was struggling to play the song i wanted with subtle undertones of the Fountain of Dreams song. If that sounds like your problem, I think I can offer advice.
While there are a few files this hasn't worked for, I recommend changing the files' sample rates to 32000. I don't remember the name of the program I used to do that, but ten minutes of Googling might help you.
