sorry. I am going to an even soon, and am going to participate in the project m bracket. I have done some experiments with a few of the characters, just wondering what my plan should be. Should I just counterpcik people, or just try random characters that I feel like playing. I dont expect to get past first round, but any Ideas. Im trying to pick a dedicated main, but this is to get a better idea on who to play because I have no real people to play with. Also, how soes playing online in project m work?

depends on if you're going the "solo main" route or "counter pick" route.

PM is a fairly heavy on the MU aspect on it, so generally its wise to have 2-3 characters at a tourney level that you can use to counterplay your opponents.

But ofc you have to be good with them. Good enough to win. Else you're better off sticking with your best character and toughing out through the matchups.

There is no reason to go random because you're playing to win, even if you're 110% sure you're going 0-2. If you're gonna play for ****s and giggles and feed the pot, then just stick around for friendlies.

As for playing online, the 2 methods im aware of is through normal Wii online mode through a homebrew server or something. I cant remember exactly.

The other method is to play over netplay with an emulator.

Well, if I pick only one, is it ok tif they are not that good? Will I get frowned upon? My favorites are wolf, snake, ganan and marth. They kindof seem like they dont have that many tech skills, its kindof just fundamental. Except wolf, but chillindude is a good player, and he plays wolf, so he is probably good? Ganon lives on making reads, and conditioning, which i amm kindof good at since I played Ibuki in streetfighter? Sanke can't approach all that well, so he is more defensive and read based with his downward throw. Marth seems mostly spacing and rushdown based, depending on which player. Ken is more rushdown, as apposed Mew2king? Do these seem like good options? Im just kindof unsure, im definitely no expert. Thank you, sorry.

Due to the nature of PM, no one really will look down upon you for your character choice unless they have a personal grudge against you and/or your chosen character.

Character viability is one of the things that the community consistently touts as PM's greatest and most redeeming feature. So much so that a lot of individual tier lists from the community tend to range from S tier to B tier, 1-3 characters ending up in C tier and below.

As for your favorites;

Wolf, Snake, and Ganon are all very much characters that require more than just fundamentals. Wolf is a very tech skill oriented character and if it doesnt seem that way to you, I would encourage you to look for some wolf tournament gameplay. Snake is along the same lines as Wolf, but instead of Tech skill you need the sense to properly place projectiles and control the stage as much as possible. Yes, he's not really about approaching, but that's fine. Ganon is a very spacing/reading based character.

Any of these characters you can use to perform well with. You just gotta put in the time.

Yo, thanks for your help. When I said fundamentals, I kinda ment more like game sense things as apposed to finger things, like multi shine. Do you have any suggestions on what to work on? Thanks again.

Everyone is different so there isnt really a sure-fire thing that you definitely need to work on aside from basic tech skill. I wouldnt be able to accurately steer you in the right direction without really knowing what you're good or bad at.

SOOO

I'll have to cop out and say work on your Tech Skill because being smart at the game doesnt mean **** if you cant execute the advanced techniques you need to do in order to win.

Also try to study/learn the more common MUs in your area so you have an idea of what you're going to fight next.

And lastly; practice on your area's legal counterpick stages. If all you do is play on PS2, Smashville, and BF. When you get taken to an unfamiliar counterpick stage, you'll not only not know how to take advantage of the stage, but you might ending up fighting the stage AND your opponent which is a sure-fire way to lose a crucial match.

That's what I have for generic advice.
