Hey and welcome to my first thread:

Event match. Ring a bell? if you play melee it should now event matches are fun and all but i think character choice needs a bit more freedom because in my opinion it seemed a little forced in melee so let me tell you the idea and when it should be used:

IDEA: On event matches whare you fight someone with no real reason other than rivalry or some such thing (think mario vs sonic or pkmn trainer vs female pkmn trainer (imigineing her as her own person even though thats sorta stupid)) i thik that you need to be allowed to choose witch of the two you play as becasue in my opinion its sorta wrong to force you to play as sonic when you want to be mario or vice versa....now before you flame me to hell and such let me explain a bit more:

When it should NOT be used: I do think that some event matches need to force you to play as someone however like if it was pkmn trianer v.s. pikachu and you are forced to play as pkmn trainer with a discription something like "A wild pikachu appears!" than thats smart and sorta cool in its own way so definitely not to be used in all cases

When it SHOULD be used: Now on the other hand do battles like melees link vs Y link really need to drive home the expirience by makeing you play Y link? nope it would play very much the same either way so i dont think in cases such as this you should be forced to take one side or the other

In closesure I just want to say that although small this change would make brawl a lot more fun to play and give the event match some slight replay value due to its ability to allow the same fights though diffrent perspectives. all in all its not a nessasary change but i think it would make the brawl experinice all the better in some small way

Ok now you may discuss flame and call me a noob :) :p

EDIT: I have a wonderful add on to this....thanks to fossilized ursidae for it becasue it really sends this idea into a new deminsion of cool

I always thought that it would be awesome it the events were per character instead of just 100 event or something. Like 10 or so events per character would end up being a good bit.

I completely agree. I've always wanted the opportunity to take on Link as Dark Link (though that isn't hard in Brawl...), or to take Ganondorf's side in the epic battle.

However, in the Pokémon Trainer vs. Pikachu battle they should lock you into using one only Pokémon (either give you a choice at the beginning or stick you with Squirtle to make you fight past the type disadvantage), and make it a stamina fight. Purely to preserve the atmosphere of a Pokémon battle.

Heck, they could even make you whittle it down to a low (but not dead) amount of HP and throw a Poké Ball item at it to catch it.

THAT would be pretty cool.

I think there was an issue with lack of creativity in event matches in Melee.

The Link vs Young Link is a great example, what sort of event match is that? I mean, nearly all of those were just normal player vs CPU fights you could set up in 10 seconds in multiplayer.

I think event matches should generally go deeper than what you can do in a few seconds on other parts of the game and be less generic, but that is just my opinion on them.

Agreed, completely. We need more event matches like the Yoshi's egg one. Things you can't really do on your own, but are actually interesting.

I agree event matches are just that, events. You should be able to choose which side of the event you want to see. Heck, they could throw in a unique ending for each one to add some replay value.
