Greetings. Recently, I've begun working on a game I am for now calling Esoteric Struggle. I can't bring in too many details as it's very early in development, but I'll explain as much about the project as I can. It's currently undecided if we'll use a free to play model or whatever, and probably won't be decided until much further down the line.

A somewhat hybrid between Smash and traditional fighters. You have light, medium, and heavy attacks, tap up to jump, etc. However, specials are on a special button instead of done by inputs in order to be easier to learn for those who are new to the genre. Shielding and grabbing also work like in Smash, except without the restriction of being only on the ground. Heck, some movesets have Smash Bros inspiration.

Also, some characters will have gimmicks such as draining health or gaining jumps from hits, or maybe even having a 'turbo mode' like effect.

Many years ago, a mysterious portal opened out of no where in America. Beasts of unmeasurable size came forth and devastated the land. Eventually, another portal came open with a hero stepping forth. This hero sealed away the beasts in vases which would be known as Spirit Vases. The nameless hero vanished, never to be seen again. But, even with his sealing away the creatures, most of America was destroyed, turned into a post apocalyptic mess that was uninhabitable to all. The residue left by the beasts made corpses rise and life fall. So, the country was abandoned.

Decades later, our story unfolds around this history. What were those beasts? Who was our hero? Perhaps the answer is closer to home than you realize.

Note: Most of these characters are merely planned.
~Alice~
An English girl who was trained in the ancient art of the sword by her family.
Weapon: Shortsword
Playstyle: Combocentric/Spacing
~Adrian~
Alice's older brother. Trained in the same art, he is a master of the sword and incredibly strong. He also has the spirit of an ancient dragon inside of him.
Weapon: Giant sword
Playstyle: Spacing
~Kage~
A Japanese girl, trained in the arts of Ninjutsu and life force manipulation.
Weapon: Claws made of darkened life force
Playstyle: Rushdown
~Harper~
A harpy who lives in a secluded area of Greece. She's a fierce warrior of her species, which is near extinction but has a life span of 1000 years. She was tasked with the duty of protecting the Devil Vase, one of the legendary Spirit Vases that hold the Shadow Beasts.
Weapon: N/A
Playstyle: Aerial Specialist
~Seraph~
A female vampire who looks 23, but is probably centuries older. She turned Adrian into a vampire like her in order to grant him immortality and is constantly watching over him.
Weapon: N/A
Playstyle: Keep Away
~Nikko~
A male werewolf who is a servant of Seraph
Weapon: N/A
Playstyle: Bait and Punish
~Hikari~
An International Officer of Japanese origin. She, like Kage, has been trained in the art of life force manipulation.
Weapon: Life force
Playstyle: Zoner
~Joey~
Once a psychic making a living doing psychic things, he one day saw something he shouldn't have while using his 3rd Eye and went utterly mad due to it. He was put into a straight jacket and chained up, but that wasn't enough to hold this crazed man, all it took was a mere thought and he was out.
Playstyle: Rushdown

And with the concepts out of the way, I suppose I should at least show you what I've done so far. It's incomplete and a bit buggy, but it's proof of progress nonetheless.

If you want to help out, you must do more than simply give ideas or test. (of course I'll eventually need testers anyways for a pre-release version so I can get some good opinions) Right now, there's not many open positions anyways, as I'm trying to keep the team small. We'll probably look for testers once at least 3 characters are finished.

The core goal of this game is to make a popular fighting game that's easy to pickup for casual play, but deep enough to make an amazing competitive game. This one of the reasons why we're taking gameplay elements from both Smash and traditional fighters such as Street Fighter. If you have any suggestions that could help achieve this, we're all ears. The game is planned for PC release and a controller is highly recommended. In particular, support will be available for XBox gamepads.

One final note. I'm the one programming for this, but I'm very inexperienced with Unity, so I'm bound to run into issues, so if anyone is well versed in the engine, your help would be very appreciated so finding bugs and cleaning up code can go so much smoother.

I'd say at least have the option to use button jump alongside or instead of tap jump, unless you intend on not having up-directional move inputs. Also, I'd recommend having dInput support for GCN adapters and PS3/PS4 controllers as well.

If you're looking for voice actors, I might be able to help out for Adrian, Nikko, or Joey.
