I don't know if it's the right section. But i would like some answers about eshop. I have difficulty to find most games in shops, so im thinking to download smash. On steam i can change language anytime but i would like to know if eshop is same. My console is set to french, i live in Canada and i want to play in Japanese.

You wouldn't be able to play in Japanese/use the Japanese eshop unless you had a Japanese 3DS. And no changing the language doesn't make it a JPN 3DS.
there are some games that offer Japanese text/voices but they aren't Japanese games, just games with those options.

In that case, am i able to chose between french/english. My console is set to french for my little Sister, but i would like to play in english, especially on smash, i know she wont touch it, not her type of game. I don't want to buy on eshop then have to buy again just to change de language.

Quick question, why do you want it in Japanese? Do you understand the language and think its better/cooler that way?

unfortunately there is no way to change the system language to japanese, and no way to access the japanese eshop unless you own a japanese 3DS.

however, there is a slight possibility there will be some language options built into the game. for example, Pokemon X/Y had a one-time multi-language option that you chose before starting your game file. i wouldn't count on it, though -- like with brawl, and like the wii u and 3ds in general, smash 4 will probably lack multiregion support.

"Slight possibility."

Are people forgetting that Melee also had Japanese in NTSC versions? In fact it was the only way to get voice out of Mewtwo and Falco.

We can only hope, since Brawl DIDN'T have that option (and, while I haven't played it, I don't think Kid Icarus did either). I'm at least a fan of having character voice toggle options (like in MvC3), even if the menus are stuck in English.

Anyways, as for the eShop, I believe it will follow your system settings. If you go into system settings and change it to English, I believe it will affect the eShop. But unfortunately, our 3DS's only deserve European language compatibility (even though they can display Japanese text just fine :ohwell:), so you'll have to get a JP 3DS to practice your Japanese (I hoped for the same thing and was similarly sad when I got mine).

brawl came out more recently than melee and didn't.
and since brawl came out, nintendo has shifted to a more region-based marketing system (not sure about home consoles, but american GBAs and DSs were able to play japanese games -- 3ds and wii u are locked). to be honest, i was shocked pokemon x/y gave us the option to choose our language -- but that's possibly a tie-in with the global release date and huge impact on worldwide connectivity.

Unfortunately, you can't switch the language to Japanese in your 3DS. The only way to get it is by buying either a japanese original 3DS or a 3DS XL. There could be language options for the game, like Melee, but since Brawl didn't have that option, I doubt it.
