Equipment - Competitive use

I've looked for a similar post where I could talk about this...but came up short, save for the Heavy Gravity/Smooth Landing crowd, but that doesn't really suit what I'm suggesting. Anyway.

Custom moves and equipment. They have been...by and large ignored by the competitive community, but nonetheless accepted as having possible competitive use in the future.

Here's some of the effects of custom equipment that has been highlighted in other threads:
  • Smooth Lander, as you've seen, mimics L-cancelling.
  • Anchor Jump (a somewhat difficult piece to acquire), can augment Fox, Falco closer to their melee falling speed. I've even compared them side-by-side; it works really well, and doesn't remove fast-falling.
  • Dodgy Dodger cuts your air and land dodge time in half, making air dodging much more difficult to time, but ground dodging still retains its usefulness.
  • Pro Glider gives greater, faster horizontal air movement. Speaks for itself.
*Equipment I have tested was used with base/0 stats in A/D/S.

Just to clarify, I'm not trying to make Melee again, or even fit the bill of a Project M - just taking a few aspects from those characters for current characters who, at this time, can be technically improved with added equipment.

This is the case with Jigglypuff.:4jigglypuff:

Giving Jigglypuff 'Pro Glider' equipment with level Speed, grants her fast, invasive air movement that returns a lot of her aerial power without making her overpowered or harder to hit/KO.

The same equipment has a similar buffs for Ganondorf, allowing him to quickly follow up with aerials more effectively, making him a more devastating character if your reads are good. It doesn't alter his recovery, as his fall speed does not change.

I am incredibly interested in what custom equipment has to offer the Smash community, so I hope you can give me some constructive feedback, especially if you have tried out some of these effects for yourself.
Again, this isn't an attempt at making PM or melee with the given effects, as there is a lot more that equipment can offer than what anyone's willing to give credit for.

*Equipment like Pro Glider and Smooth Landing aren't difficult to obtain, and at this time I can only think of dodgy dodger and Anchor Jump as rare to find, although fighting with high level amiibos and completing higher level Crazy orders can give you these in about 3-4 attempts; I got DD every time in the last 3 runs.

The other obvious obstacle is that this takes some time to obtain desired stats and effects, so that's a definite turn off for some, although you can still use this online with friends, so I'm thinking on the small scale for now.

Someone did something almost exactly like this only a couple weeks ago, and there were two big problems:

Equipment is pretty difficult to obtain, so it's almost impossible to have consistent sets between games, and

who's going to regulate these sets? If you really want to try to force your equipment sets on the general public, you won't find enough people. The appeal of custom equipment is the freedom to do whatever you want, whether it be a Lucina that plays like Roy or a Charizard that plays like Sheik. You'll always have 1 of 2 problems; not enough freedom for people to truly morph their favorite characters to their playstyle, or too much freedom and you'll get stuff like +199 speed on a Sonic.

Not that it matters anyway, mods will be here soon to say that equipment is not viable for competitive play

It's true that this has no viable way of being spread except by possessing similar equipment, but I don't think we should put it down for that - I think it can do alot.

But i get your point, so repost this in general discussion - once the mods delete this one, of course.

Is Crazy Orders the best way to get the Pro Glider and Anchor Jump Equipment?

Anything that gives non-basic equipment can have specific effects. That said, the only thing that helps the odds of getting an effect is not unlocking other effects.

so ive played around with equipment and found lots of awesome things with just using a ruleset i made up with a friend keeping a cap of +100 in all stats and only allowed to use two pieces of equipment for one stat.
this balances really well from whay ive tested and makes the game super fast paced and combo/punish heavy.
this is just a quick thing we came up with but id like to see people try it out and see this games full potential. try it out its super dun. this is without any special effects just stat boosts

Why do people keep making these posts?
Honestly? Because we've never had this much choice with customisation before in a smash game, so people who aren't dazzled by the competitive side look at other ways to contribute - stage building in Brawl was pretty big but undervalued.
Now that people have started saying that the game is too slow and that some characters have huge flaws, it seems like a natural choice to just buff em with certain equipment effects.

I don't get the "we don't need this" or that "it takes too much time".
There can only be something good found from experimenting with the equipment effects.

Having played around with them for a while, the best set I've come across by FAR has been;
  • Heavy Smash
  • Springer, Smooth lander, but you can give whatever to any character if you want.
Springer restores your lost jump height in each character, whilst also granting a faster falling speed and that wonderful curve in the trajectory arc.
Smash 4's metal and heavy physics are totally unlike Melee and Brawls. Instead of instantly dying, it's much more manageable, so it was relatively easy to manipulate.
I'll upload footage of it ASAP, but the only downsides of this mode that I can see is that double jumps gets interrupted by ariels, but retain full height if left with an aerial. The major fall with this is combination is that, because of springer, your short hop is 1.2 times as high :(
Still easy to FF, but the short jump can wreck some characters.
Until I record such footage, here's the only footage online of anchor jump:
Stats: - 29 speed, as amiibos organically gain +25 on every stat as they reach level 50.

So, it's really just -4 speed, so you'll notice a minor speed and jump nerf on the T link amiibo.
