Are you nervous about joining the Melee community? Are you scared to go to a large tournament? Well have I got a solution for you!
Play locals!
Speaking from personal experience, I went to Big House 6 expecting to bop the people I faced in pools, and bop the people I faced in friendlies, and, oh, was I wrong. I got annihilated by my two opponents, even having one streamed (with Prog commentating, nonetheless, witch was very embarrassing). What did I do in turn? Sulk around without playing Melee for another day of course! Why would I do such a thing? Wasn't I there to play Melee?
It is simple! I needed a homie! Where are all the homies, then? In your local area! At least I think...
So join your local Smash communities, participate in the small tournaments so you can take on the larger ones! The Smash community looks too large to enter, and it has been disheartening me a bunch lately, so I am trying to figure out how to cope with the intimidation. Maybe someone else who is feeling the same things will be able to help me or themselves out. Maybe I am a little twerp who is just figuring out the things everyone else has a long time ago. I don't know, I just want to start having fun with competitive Melee.
Also if you have no local community, or one that blows, then you're SOL... Unless someone else has an idea on what to do in that situation?
