You must find your own path to the future.
The edge running glitch from Brawl remains in Smash 4. What it does is it allows you to continue to dash into an edge without falling off.
Generally it has no use except for playing mindgames with the opponent, but there is actually potential with this through Villager because his dash attack produces the sapling. Using this technique, you can wait at the edge for the opponent to get into the trajectory path of the sapling, and then just hit A to launch it. The sapling has a unique angle compared to Villager's other edge options, since it starts out horizontal and gets quite a distance while making its parabola shape.
To do the edge running glitch:
Easiest way - As you are dashing, tilt the control stick down enough so that your character slows his dash but does not crouch.
Alternate/Harder way - Rather than tilting the control stick down, tilt the control stick enough away from the direction you are running so you slow down but do not stop.
You can dash on the edge as long as you like until you decide to hit A to execute your dash attack. Alternatively, if the opponent is not at the right angle to be hit by the sapling, you can press forward a little more to make yourself go off the edge for an aerial. You can also let go of the control stick to stop yourself so you can use a bowling ball.
The technique is hard to get used to, but there is actually good reason to use it with Villager.
-Can be done on soft platforms as well (so may be useful on a stage like Battlefield)
