Okay, first of all, I know that Earthworm Jim has 0 chance to be in Brawl. He hasn't had a game come out in nearly ten years, and Shiny Entertainment is hardly a premier third party.

But he is awesome, and if you have never heard of him, here is a history lesson.

Earthworm Jim came out for the Sega Mega Drive in 1994, and many other systems, including the SNES, over the next few years. When it was released, it was praised for it's varied gameplay, detailed animation, and absurdist humor. The game was apparently the first game ever to score a 100% in Games Master Magazine (Which I've never heard of, but it's still legitimate.) The game featured hilarious characters, challenging gameplay, and one of video game's first escort missions (but don't worry, this one was fun.)

Here is a screenshot from that memorable first game.

As any gamer of the 90's can tell you, Earthworm Jim became extremely popular, and spawned 3 sequels, a great cartoon, and an action figure line. I want to say, but cannot be sure, but The Special Editon PC version may have been the first video game I ever played, at the age of 4.

Earthworm Jim 2 (1995) , another masterpiece. With even more varied gameplay, one moment you'll be swimming through a planet made out of intestines, the next you'll be trying to complete a food-themed level while stalked by a deadly salt shaker.

Earthworm Jim (TV Series) (1995-1996) ran on WB for 2 seasons and 23 episodes. The show was great, and reruns sometimes air on Nicktoons and Cartoon Network. All but the last episode are also now on Youtube. Jim was voiced by Dan Castellanata, more famous for voicing none other than Homer Simpson!

Earthworm Jim 3D (1999) The game that killed Jim. Shiny Entertainment eventually sold the rights to the character, and he was passed around from developer to developer, eventually landing in the hands of what is now Rockstar Games (That's Right, ever heard of Grand Theft Auto?) The game was okay, but due to an unplayable camera setting, and many promised features that were removed due to rushed developement, EWJ3D was universally panned. Let's face it, there were much better 3D platformers on the N64...

Earthworm Jim: Menace 2 the Galaxy (1999) If 3D killed Jim, then this game defecated on his corpse. It's bad. It's really bad. Disregard this game completely.

Atari eventually got the rights to Jim, and they released GBA versions of the first two games. They got Shiny to help them make a new EWJ game for PSP, and it would have been awesome. However, possibly due to Atari's financial troubles, the game was put on hold recently, and might not be picked up again.:(

Relation to Nintendo
In the mid-nineties, Earthworm Jim was arguably as popular as Mario or Sonic, and in Donkey Kong Country 2 Diddy Kong was ranked as a video game hero based on how many secret coins he collected. Mario, Link, and for some reason, Yoshi, made up the top 3, and the Honorable mentions were ackknowledged with a trashcan containing Sonic's Shoes and Jim's Gun. Nintendo once saw Jim as Mario's second greatest rival.

Jim is a great hero, one forgotten by time. The first two games have evolved from blockbusters to cult classics, and are still tremendous fun even to this day. Here is the main event: his moveset.

a moves/smash attacks: Just standard punches and kicks I guess, I can't really think of anything for these.

b: Red Blaster, anyone who has played the games will know how this works. The gun is semi-automatic, and would fire a constant stream of short-range gunfire. The first couple shots would have a little bit of hitstun, but no knockback, and each shot that connects would do about 1-2% damage. He could go on firing forever, but is completely immobile when he fires, so because there is no knockback, the target could just walk up and punch him in the face.

side b: Head whip, Jim pulls his worm body out of his super suit and whips it A La Indiana Jones. Each hit would do about 3-5%. This would also be a tether recovery.

down b: The Manta. A weird secret move from the games. Jim ducks and puts his gloves in front of his face in the shape of a manta ray. It would do basically the same thing as fox's shine, by reflecting projectiles, but will not slide if triggered when moving, and will guard against all physical attacks too. However, Jim's rear will be left completely unprotected while doing this move.

up b: Balloon Head. Jim sticks his thumb in his mouth, causing his head to inflate as he slowly rises straight up. He will rise as long as B is held, but when the button is released, the balloon pops, doing small knockback and about 10-15% to all nearby opponents. When the balloon explodes, Jim plummets very quickly straight down, but can move slowly left or right in the air while falling.

Jim would have a double jump, but if the jump button is tapped repeatedly, his head will spin like a helicopter, and he can glide left or right will slowly drifting down.

Entrance: Jim would fly in on his pocket rocket, and stuff it back into his pocket before taking a combat stance.

Taunts: 1. Jim would stand up straight, put his hand on his chest and sing "Lalala".
2. Jim would pull out a tiny elvis doll and play with it in his hand.
3. Jim would simply just flip the opponent off. (once again, he's not actually going to be in this.)

Final Smash: The Barnhouse. A power up gun from the games that would kill every enemy on screen. Jim would pull this colossal gun out of his pocket that looks like a brick house. The screen would go black for a second and shake a bit, and when the lights came up, Jim would be sitting down on the ground rubbing his head and looking very tired. All of his opponents will have accumulated 50% more damage, but the move has no knockback, so no one would die, they would just be a lot weaker.

Jim would be quick on his feet and have very good traction, but would be less floaty than most characters in Brawl.

He doesn't have a chance, but if you wanty to perfect his moveset or just reminisce about these classic games, please reply.

Sorry if I'm pulling a scab off an old wound, but Jim was also a crossover playable character in Clayfighter 63 1/3. Dan Castellanata did his voice work for that one, too.

I'd love to see Jim in Brawl, despite him having an earthworm's chance in hell, so to speak. He's got great potential as a fighter and is an all-around awesome character.

Clayfighter was a product of 1997, a bit earlier than his N64 deal. But it's true that it wasn't really a Jim game, it was just a game with Jim in it. I pointed it out to show his ability to fight, more than anything else.

Is that all you can say?

IMO, Earthworm Jim is a really great character, and would be 10x cooler than Megaman. Once again, this is MY opinion!

I remember playing this game on my friend's Sega. I know him best though from the cartoon and PC version, but never knew he was such an icon. He would be an amazing WTF character (to most people).

Yeah if we were to have just 1 WTF character in Brawl it definatly be Earthworm Jim. I remember that game for it's gameplay, humor, uniqueness of the characters and the music was sick as f**k(espeacilly New Junk City Music.)

This is sort of related but I read somewhere this article on Gamespot today that the company that made Earthworm Jim games, may make new installments of Erathworm Jim.
(Read the arcticle from Gamespot below)

Interplay restarting dev studio
Company says it will make new installments of Earthworm Jim, Descent, MDK, Dark Alliance if it can get the money.

As a publisher, Interplay is a shell of its former self. After a visible and embarrassing series of events in which the company was threatened with eviction, sued by BioWare for nonpayment of royalties on the Baldur's Gate series, and finally closed by authorities for not paying or insuring its employees, the publisher all but disappeared.

In 2006, the company revealed it was planning a massively multiplayer online game based on the Fallout universe; it just needed $75 million to get it done. That funding hasn't materialized yet, but the publisher explained how it will keep busy in the meantime in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission today.

With the explanation that it is looking at ways of leveraging its stable of franchises "through sequels and various development and publishing arrangements," Interplay announced it is restarting its in-house development studio. The money to establish that studio will come from the recent sale of the Fallout franchise to Bethesda Softworks. (Interplay is now licensing the Fallout IP from Bethesda for its upcoming MMOG.) The publisher also said it has brought back Jason Anderson, a lead artist on the original Fallout game and cofounder of the defunct Troika Games, to serve as creative director for an unannounced MMOG.

Among the projects Interplay has said it wants to develop are sequels to Earthworm Jim, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Descent, and MDK, provided it can find the financing. The Earthworm Jim license was most recently held by Atari, which announced a PlayStation Portable version of the game last year with Shiny as the developer. Atari later sold Shiny to Foundation 9, and the project appears to be dead. Shiny was previously owned by Interplay until the publisher sold it to Atari in 2002.

The Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance sequel also has ties to Atari, given that the Infogrames subsidiary currently holds the rights to the Dungeons & Dragons license. Like the rest of the Baldur's Gate series, the Dark Alliance spin-off for consoles was created under the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms imprint. Interplay signed a multiyear deal for the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale licenses in 2002, but it's unclear when that arrangement was set to expire.

[UPDATE]: An Interplay representative confirmed for GameSpot that the company owns the Dark Alliance name, and can continue to make fantasy role-playing games under that banner so long as they don't use the Dungeons & Dragons license, which includes the Forgotten Realms world and the Baldur's Gate name. As for Earthworm Jim, Interplay owns the property, and Atari merely has a license to make certain handheld games based on the character.

Hopefully they make one for the Wii at least. I doubt Interplay has even talked to Nintendo about it, seeing as they probably have bigger things on their mind. I hope they can at least get him on the VC for download.

Anybody have anything to say about the moveset I made? In my proffessional opinion, it sucks right now.
