e3 prank isnt funny

so this thread is not a poll i read on smashpedia that there was a prank that said that sonic and tails would be in the game i dont think this was funny but i was like 5 on the day of that joke why would sonic be in melee anyways i mean i certainly didnt expect him to be in brawl or 3ds or wii u let alone melee or n64 also he was only playable on sega systems until 2003 my theory was that they wanted to ruin melee but i am opening this page to get an opinion
on some side notes
roy and marth were initially viewed as nonviable to sales outside japan thank the early marth players
lucas was initially going to replace ness
snake is the first guest star offered he was offered in melee
pacman did not surprise me link was in soul caliber 2
mr game and watch was significantly buffed in the third smash game
i suck at melee because i am too used to brawl
and i like playing as most low tier characters

Anyways, it would be funny if those ancient infamous Melee rumor vids saying that Sonic was unlockable through easter eggs were actually found out to be true 10 years from now.

Anyways, on the topic of Melee rumors, there was a kid at school that swore he had Toad in the game because he shot all the targets in the credits. First-grade me was like "Cool! I can play as Toad!" I wasted so much time in single-player that I completed everything with every character in every mode and I still couldn't manage to hit every target.
