I was playing a doubles match (as Pika) with my friends today and something amazing happened. My friend (playing as Marth) was attempting to recover from underneath the stage.
I stood on the very edge of the stage (where you do your 'about to fall' animation) and did a dsmash. This resulted in a spike (about 45 degrees down, away from the platform) with no possibility for him to recover. Somehow the dsmash didn't allow him to sweetspot the ledge.
I'll try to replicate it sometime later. It probably will not be as useful as the thunder edge-guard, but perhaps could be used as a surprise tactic, if your opponent finds a way around the thunder edge-guard.
