Got screwed over by my boss at Namco so here’s everything I know about characters in the upcoming Smash Bros games. Hope Nintendo appreciates the spoilers! Maybe next time Namco will make sure their supervisors treat their workers better.
Reps for unrepresented franchises:
*Chibi Robo is on the roster.
*Isaac is on the roster.
*Takamaru is on the roster.
*Miis are on the roster.
Reps for existing franchises:
*Toad is going to be the final Mario character. Sakurai showed Peach’s Toad move to mislead as Toad will not be announced before the game is released. But he mentioned that her moves might change. Toad (Peach’s move) is actually going to be replaced by either Toadette or Toadsworth, leaving the move intact but Toad available to appear on his own. I never heard what the final choice was going to be between Toadette and Toadsworth though.
*Tingle is going to be the final secret LOZ character. He has appeared in several of the games and had his own spin off. This is to cater more to the Japanese fans as Tingle is not popular in the US.
*Pokémon Trainer is returning, but without Pokémon. Instead, his/her (yes, it is another costume change character) moves utilize key items from the series including the Super Rod and Squirt Bottle.
*Mewtwo is returning from Melee. Jigglypuff has surprisingly been cut. Sakurai had a lot of difficulty with this decision as Jigglypuff is a veteran from the original, but her popularity has dropped and Mewtwo’s has risen, so he wanted to please the fans.
*Wolf has been cut. Starfox still has a bad guy on the roster though in a move that Sakurai is planning to shock everyone with: Andross, full body for the first time ever. Andross will use scaled-down versions of his classic attacks and Sakurai has put a lot of time into his moves and his appearance, wanting to do justice for the fans.
*King K Rool is on the roster.
*Ridley is on the roster.
*Chrom is on the roster.
*Palutena is on the roster.
*Bandana Dee is a new Kirby rep. He uses a spear primarily but for his special attacks he uses other items that Waddle Dees use in the Kirby games. King Dedede’s moves are changed and no longer use Waddle Dees to accommodate his inclusion.
*Baby Mario Bros. (Baby Mario and Luigi) are a new tag-team character and Yoshi rep, similar to Ice Climbers but with their own uniqueness. They require you to protect your partner as the loss of your partner means the loss of a special attack (Baby Mario is the executor of the side B attack and Baby Luigi is the executor of the down B attack, so you should pick which one you want to control when you choose your character depending on which attack you definitely don’t want to be left without).
*Snake is out. Pacman is the third third-party character, as many fans assumed would happen.
*Also returning: Ice Climbers, Wario, Metaknight, Ganondorf, Falco, Captain Falcon, Game & Watch, ROB, and Ness.
