Pirateman
Smash Cadet
The other day I was thinking what character would be really cool to do an analysis for, but yet had no chance of getting in, just for the heck of it. A character that would fit in with the rest of the Smash crowd. A character that could maybe be in if (or when) there is a new Super Smash Bros. If the title has not clued you in yet the character is:
Who is he? *spoilers if you haven't seen the movies*
Jack Sparrow is the "captain" of the Black Pearl, a ship that was raised from the depths (by Davy Jones) for him to captain for thirteen years. Jack Sparrow is known for is eccentric madness/brilliance, and his obsession of rum. Other than being a quirky (that is an understatement) character with a natural "tipsy" action, he is a surprisingly skilled fighter. He was "known" to sack Nassau Port without firing a shot, and he survived three Disney movies (a feat in its own). Also, He has held his own against the likes of Will Turner, Barbosa, and Davy Jones, and won (and lost) all those duels (in one way or another).
Type of Fighter
Jack Sparrow is the kind of fighter that will resign himself to waiting in the background and then striking at the "opportune" moment. He would be balanced in Speed and power, but he would rely on cunning and his special skills.
Basic Moveset:
Speed: 6/10
Defense: 8/10
Power: 5/10
Jump: 5/10
Throw: 4/10
Reach: 5/10
Regular B: Shivering Daggers: Throws a dagger
B side: Grenades of doom: Throws two grenades
B Up: Rope recovery: Uses his rope to grab and hold on to the edge
B Down: Rum Drink, he drinks rum and then throws bottle and grows more powerful, but harder to control for a short period of time...
FS: the Curse: He turns into a skeleton and can not be hit for some time. The Black Pearl shows up in the backgound and other un-dead pirates swarm the stage.
(Moveset made with help from RAIKOU3322 and S'KREE'RAN on NSider)
Arguments:
"He is not in a video game."
Actually, he was in his own series of games for the Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as in Kingdom Hearts II as a support character. If that doesn't qualify him...well...it should. KH is a major franchise.
"He is third party."
Duh. Nintendo would have to purchase rights to Jack. He would most likely be considered just like any other character. However, I think that he would be considered in higher esteem because, if Disney is going to be involved, they are going to make sure they don't look bad, and Nintendo would definitely get, "more bang for their buck" by going with a Disney character.
"Disney would never sell Jack Sparrow."
A good argument, but seeing as none of us are on the board of directors for Disney, we will not know. However, Nintendo would have to pay quite a bit to get Jack, Disney will most certainly not just give Jack away.
"He is stoopide."
Well...that is just an opinion. (I had to post that to those who feel the need to not explain themselves.)
"He is not originated from a video game."
I know that. Read the opening paragraph. The team on the next Smash after Sakurai might decide to do something different.
While clearly he will not be in Brawl, it is good to hope that when the next game comes, Nintendo will consider Captain Jack.
