Lets get one thing straight, I love Dragonball. Say what you will, but Dragonball always has been (and always will be) one of my favorite series. With that said, lets talk about the newest Dragonball game, Dragonball: Raging Blast.
Okay, so even though there are a ton of Dragonball games they're all hit-or-miss. And by the demo, Raging Blast looks like its shaping up to be a hit. The game is more or less an unofficial Budokai Tenkaichi 4 in the sense that it has the same general game play style from those games, I suppose you should call it a spiritual successor. The demo had three characters to choose from, Goku (with or without Super Saiyan), Piccolo and Raditz. I started out with a Super Saiyan Goku VS Piccolo match, not knowing any of the controls I quickly got beat into the ground (literally) by the CPU. After a second round, I kind of got a grasp on the controls and then started playing seriously.
After a few rounds of experimenting and play with (and against) different characters, I smiled out of satisfaction and turned off my Playstation 3, then I started to write this. Okay, before I say anything about the game play... the graphics. Oh God the graphics... I think this is the closest that we're going to come to really capturing the look and feel of Dragonball. Okay, and now game play, the controls are somewhat funky at first, but once you get use to them they're great and work really well. I want to find the guy who had the great idea of mapping all of your Ki Blasts to the right stick and buy him a drink. Speaking of the Ki blasts, they are really pretty and feel great to pull off. First time I used the Sprit Bomb my jaw was on the floor, and all of the other ones look awesome as well. The CPU has gotten noticeably smarter, using a few strategies that I'd expect a player to use. As far as complaints go, there isn't much in the way of game balance (are you suppressed?) and the camera can really be a pain in the *** some times.
So minor things aside, Dragonball: Raging Blast is looking to be shaping up into being a great game and one that's worth the time and money of any Dragonball fan who owns a PS3 or Xbox 360.
