This is my first time downloading a game onto my JP 3DS. I have read that you van use an NA visa credit card in the Japanese eShop so I might cancel my physical copy I had preordered (so i don't have to pay $20 shipping and wait a couple days)

So now I have a few questions:
1. Any one know for fact this is true about the Visa credit cards working?
2. How many blocks will it take up? i want to make sure i have an SD card ready!
3. What time/date (ET) will I be able to download it? my guess is sept 12, but not sure of time...

thanks in advanced!

2. If I recall, something in the neighborhood of 2100 blocks.
3. 11AM Eastern Daylight Time on the 12th, if my calculations are correct. I believe Japan is 13 hours ahead of us.

1. I tried using a credit card on the eShop, but it didn't work for some reason- I think that my bank declined it. So, my next idea is to get two Japanese eShop cards, one 5000 point one (from here) and one 1000 point card (from here). For 6000 points ($79.98), I should be able to get the Japanese one for 5616 points with (hopefully) little hassle, as I'll have the points loaded up on my 3DS before Smash's release and I'll have just over 300 points to play with. This seems to be the best option for someone who isn't comfortable using their credit card on the eShop. Any better ideas people?

3. I've heard different answers. Some people have said that it'll be 11 am EST, since that's midnight in Japan, but others have said that it's going to be 10 pm EST, both on Friday the 12th. I'm not sure myself.

Also, I've got a question of my own- do you need a Japanese NNID to download the game from the eShop? I don't understand Japanese so I don't want to screw something up.

On the ID thing, I tried downloading the RPGmaker from the shop last night as a test and it worked without an ID! Thanks for the links for the download codes, I originally had my preorder with PA so they will still get my money out of the equation!

Download codes from the game are also being sold at Amazon.co.jp for about 500 yen cheaper than the Nintendo store. The codes will be available from 3pm on the 12th (Japan time) but won't be able to be used till midnight. (Also, I highly doubt they'll care where your credit card is from.)

I didn't know about that. Do you have a link to the download codes?

Thanks! I was just going to add 6,000 yen and then download it. I am glad I can get it cheaper on amazon. Thanks again for posting that info!

Interesting, i'm curious as to whether I should buy the code or just add funds to my 3DS. Do you know if the codes are in Japanaese letters? Hirigana/Kanji? Or are they the letters i'm used to? :p I assume the codes are emailed to you as soon as you buy it?

Thanks for the help! But how do I buy it? Do I need a Japanese amazon account? I assume the code will contain English letters and numbers, correct?

I want to know most of that, but i'm pretty sure you don't need a Japanese Amazon Account.

As long as you have a Japanese 3DS: either the Japanese download cards, or the Japanese point cards should work. The codes come in English (roman) characters, and numbers.

Yeah I've had the Japanese 3ds since it's release in japan!

I already bought 1000 points to see if it would take my credit card and it worked so I guess it would be a waste if I bought that download code ...

Any idea how you'd get around needing a Japanese account? This would be perfect, but I don't think that my credit union allows for yen conversions.

Just bought a 1,000 yen code from Play Asia as a test, and it's sent instantly. I'd recommend buying from there.

thats the other thing ... play asia charges $15.99 for 1000 points and $63.99 for 5000 points ... idk how much my credit card will be charged for 5000 points after converting, its about $47.65 but will my bank charge me a conversion fee? otherwise buying it directly from the eshop will save you a good amount of money.

No idea. I'm from the UK and wasn't charged any conversion fees.
