Doubters for Smash on the 3ds/ds?

I was told to post it here cause I wasn’t sure where to put it.

Hey everyone, just a simple question. Does anyone know if there were people doubting smash being on the 3ds/ds before it came out? If the answer is yes, what were some of their arguments against the idea?

Thanks for anyone who can help me out, it really means a lot.
