This applies to multiple characters, so since there's no "general character discussion" it'll go here since the character discussions are half-dead anyway.

Anyway, it seems like the most common multi-shining is taught is the back-and-forth B-Y horizontal-thumb sliding method, with other jump-cancel methods like (claw/X, tap jump, or custom controls) also popular.
Now I'm not discouraging the use of any method, but this guide is primarily based on the basic Y-jump/vertical-thumb method, and was made to shine light on a few details about multi-shine in general, that I've yet to see mentioned anywhere.

The Important Part:
==================================================
1 - Do not just spam B Y B. :GCB:>:GCY:>:GCB:= :mad:
Consider jump+B as almost one button: B, YB. :GCB:, :GCY::GCB:= :chuckle:
2 - Remember that the jump cancel isn't important to focus on, unlike the repeating of B.
3 - For this method, move your thumb only enough to press/release the buttons. During double-shine your thumb should look like it barely twitched. Decreased movement = quicker input / better results (obviously).
==================================================

I've read some people say "practicing multishining >2x isn't important" (I'm cereal), and others that you should "practice the motion first & start slow." :rolleyes: That's just like saying "If you want to get ripped in no time, then go easy at the gym." Here's what you should do.
- Practice multishining 4x even though you cannot (and will not actually use it).
- Practice moving as fast as you possibly can. (Build speed by pushing your limits).
- Don't worry about what you see on screen; focus more on your button presses.
- Practice, turn off the game, then come back later and practice more.
- Immediately get into the rhythm of
B, YB (or Jump-B as if it's almost one button).

Do this and you will see fast results (might get your first doube-shine same day).

Lastly- since timings are different when you land hits, the most important way to practice is in Training with a :starman:-ed opponent (Falco) or cornered opponent (Fox/Wolf).
For Fox/Falco, watch the hexagon animation or listen to the sound effect. It'll also help you with double-shine timings. That's all. Hope I helped someone. /end term paper

Ryobeat got like 37 shines in a row by wiggling his finger in between.
Yeah, and that's amazing. But this doesn't apply to people who've already mastered it some way. This thread's purpose isn't to bash other methods.

I'm just suggesting something else. Also, he's a Peach player and doesn't play PM, so he didn't really master anything, it just works.

Cool. But it takes a little practice. Without custom controls, it's not something you can do automatically.

Well I mentioned that method twice on this page ("Thumb-slide Y"). I'm sure people know it's popular and also effective. I even started that way. But this page isn't about that method, because you can find information about it literally anywhere else. Between here, gamefaqs and youtube, I've run into at least 5 or 6 pages about it. But I've seen nothing with these details about the vertical-thumb method. That's why this thread was made.

Trueeeeee... but what if you also play melee?
I'm admittedly extremely spoiled by the custom control scheme. I can no longer play Melee and pick Fox or Falco. But I can still play a helluva Ganon, so I've got that going for me at least.

Phaiyte.. that name looks familiar, I'm pretty sure I've seen that name on youtube a few times in comments lol. I try not to complicate my controls more than necessary for that reason alone. Just grab on X most of the time

I have Z as jump. I have no problem timing shines. My fingers are already in position. No movement required.

Just to clarify, you say practicing >2x shines is worth it, but in a match, applying more than two shines is rare, correct? Im trying to think of a benefit to doing >3x shines.

I find the hardest aspect of double-shining is to be ready to implement double shine when the infinitesimally short opportunity presents.

Z sounds pretty efficient, I like that. Spacie-wise I only use it for Falco's dacus, if at all, so I kinda want to try that out.

Yes you should practice multishining more than twice. Key word: practice.. for getting the feel and the speed of it all. Once you're practicing shine >2x, then double-shine will be like a walk in the park. (not you per se, I'm just making a point)

Unless you're trapping a nub in his shield, you'll never need to shine >2x in PM since Stadium 1 is never used.

As for the last statement, that's why I made the section of the guide that's titled with red letters. Step 1 and 2 would apply to you. Nobody ever mentions that part and I don't know why.
