Don't you hate it when lag gets in the way? ( Rant )

Like the player you're fighting isn't even good and you do all you can but lag is just fighting against you? I'm hoping with the new 3ds coming out that lag won't be a huge issue as it is now. Have you ever had lag get in your way from an win?

Quite a few times, I was just today fighting a Sonic and I didn't stand a chance as Jr. with all of the lag. I swear the screen was frozen for 7 seconds at one point.

I fought a spamming baddie. Like they only played as spaming projectile players. Mainly samus,the attacks were all really simple to dodge just i couldn't do it.

I hate it in peach mirrors online and lag comes. I'm just like free fairs against me because that's all it is. It becomes shiek's fair with kill power.

Yes lag gets frustrating at times which is why you should just drop the player afterwards. It's just the reality of wifi. Don't let the lag get to you, if you can play through it fine, then continue the match. If it becomes unbearable just quit asap and find a new match.

This happened to me against a Shulk player in FG the other day. I could tell I was a superior player in terms of skills but this guy's connection was so horrible I couldn't land a single move and he pretty much spammed counter and back slash. I raged so hard, and tried not to chuck my 3DS across the room. A terrible connection brings out the worst in me.

Yes, was going to post a thread about this but seen this post already, I don't mind losing to a better player at all, but losing based on lag irks me to no end, especially when you can get your shield up when by all rights you should, like previously stated against samus and other projectile spammers losing because you aren't blocking a full second before you should, But like also stated if lag is an issue i do drop the opponent as soon as its done.

Is there any way to tell if the lag is your fault or the other persons? I don't think it's my fault most of the time because I can play just fine with friends, but whenever I play with anyone the lag just goes crazy, almost every match. I just want to know whether or not the lag is my fault so I can just leave and go play solo for a bit and not annoy people.

Only way to check is to check your connection.

I don't play in lag. I could care less about my W/L, I SD twice and leave the room. No reason to drag a 5 minute match on for 10+ minutes where neither party is having any fun.

But I've had good connections with a quick lag spike. If I'm in the middle of setting something up it gets frustrating because I might roll instead of running out of shield or something, but nothing I lose sleep over.

All the time, Lag is frustrating on my main, with lucario you need perfect timing and precision with his recovery to grab the ledge, or beware that awkward moment of landing lag.

I sometimes SD because lag messed up my up b aiming. The worse is when people think they're good writing "too easy" and leaving, But I guess whatever makes them feel good to win a battle with extreme lag and SDs flying around.

I know that feeling, I play Lucina and I too need that space and when I use dancing blade for an uair combo I can't ever do it because the lag won't let me complete the attack and I end pressing up b instead. Also with Ness I can't do his recovery because the lag won't let me control the pkt.

i do the exact same thing. i could not give less about a w/l ratio if its REALLY hurting my enjoyment. i quit about 1/3 or 1/4 of my opponents just because of the lag even if its just minor. yet i still have a solid winrate that i could not care less considering how majority of the FG playerbase can be summed up to different categories depending the char
( example the generic FG ZSS with pattern of stun gun into dash or grab. while starts to use down-b in panic mode..)

go play in smashladder if you really want play for ranking online.

I can't like this post enough, it's extremely frustrating when my finisher move (back air forward air smash whatever it may be) doesn't register due to lag, then getting beat because my opponent was able to punish me for it without lag problems

Speed tests can help you determine if it's your internet provider or if it's the Wireless Interference Protocol getting in your way (if you are on Wifi). If you have other machines in your place, or other people living with you, you can also check your QoS settings on the router to make sure it's not restricting bandwidth when they are using the internet. This doesn't just mean they are streaming, mind you. Most machines will auto-connect to the internet and perform updates and such which can slow things down if the QoS isn't setup right.

Port Forwarding/Triggering can help too, though finding the right ports is troublesome. I know the ones required for most 3DS games, but am still finding which ones are needed for routers that need high security.

What you can do will depend on your situation, mostly.
