The Reverse Dolphin Slash is when you immediately point your Control Stick the other way after you've pressed upB. Marth will face the other way if you've done it right
So when you're facing left, do an upB, and press (/smash) immediately to the right:
First the upB: then the opposite direction:

Dolphin Slash
within range of the opposition .. smash up on the control stick and press the B button

now what i want to know is whats the difference between the two ... do they affect the trajectory at which they send the opponent is the reverse up B better than the normal Up B .. why and how

;)

i dont think it changes the trajectory much. i did training: marth dittos.
i went up to the marth cpu...and up+b him the normal way. he went ___ distance, i reset.
i went up to the cpu again and did up+b, reverse this time, he went about the same distance.
the difference was probably the width of half of a centimeter...
anyway thats what i found.

From what I hear, and personally expirience @ tournies; the reverse has more horizontal knockback. It has enough to significantly change the flying distance at over 150-ish.

Spacies are notoriously hard to kill at high percentages with Marth. The Reverse up-B really does the trick during times such as those.

The hitbox for the attack starts at the back of the sword, so when you use the reverse you sorta hit them with the tip and apparently it's better. I could be 100% off but that's just what I heard. Don't exactly know WHY but it's better that's for sure.

If you hit with the initial hitbox, its the same for both. The most powerful knockback occurs at the beginning of the attack, but if you don't reverse it, a badly spaced dolphin slash will not hit at the strongest hitbox.

Does that make any sense? Reversing it reduces the amount of spacing that you have to do in order to get the more powerful knockback.

The difference is range. Its easier to sweetspot the reverse dolphin slash. I've been experimenting with this move a lot recently.

Heres another little example why the reverse is better than the normal. Its also a good way to gimp a falco player. So first you down throw or forward throw the falco off the stage, then hit them with a fair (this gets rid of their jump) then they are forced to up b. It just so happens to be that falcos up b recovery covers the exact same amount as marths. Because of this you can reverse up b them and make it back up to the stage.

Thats a very bad description but the basic idea is that you can use the reverse b for edge guarding where you cant use the normal one.

Another thing is where it hits. Lets say you up b someone who is shielding. You will hit them in the center of the shield. However the reverse up b will hit them in the lower part of their shield and can often hit under it.

Yeah, I've heard Kizzu mention that Reverse Dolphin Slash goes under Ganondorf's shield (and maybe other characters such as G&W too). It's much easier to sweetspot.

I didn't know you could reverse the dolphin splash. It makes sense though, since you can reverse Roy's blazer. they have different effects, though.

it does alter the trajectory.
Not much at lower percentages, which is why your tests didn't prove anything, but at higher percentages, the reverse one shoots them out much lower and farther.

Irela... Like I'm telling you!
Reverse Up B is actually quite handy if your opponent is easily hittable above you, but you can't jump anymore.

At higher percents you can land back by the time they've recovered to where you are, it's also unexpected

Not a move for common use though

use reverse upB to escape your opponents grasp also land some shield stun .its true that you can hit with the sweetspot everytime and much more productive

than the normal upB but to do that you will have to smash directions out of the initial 4 frame start up
