Dolphin Melee Netplay Issue

This probably has a relatively simple solution but i cannot seem to find one at the moment so I will post my question here. I recently started playing melee on the Dolphin Emulator after finally getting my settings right where i could run the game with no lag, specifically on fountain. Yesterday I accidentally opened up tournament mode and was taken to a rather strange window with blue text that i hardly understood. I kept trying to click out of it with B but it did not work and i ended up stopping the emulation. I know i changed clicked several things in that menu i did not understand,, however. To my dismay upon restarting the emulator, Melee was back to lagging horrendously. My emulation was still set to perfect, and everything else seemed to be the same, which were as follows:

Config
Dual Core Enabled
Idle Skipping Enabled
Enable cheats
Frame Limit 60 Limit by FPS checked
JIT Recompiler
Force Netplay Listen Port 1

Graphics
Open Gl
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M
1x NAtice
Anti Aliasing off
Anisotropic filtering 1x
Post processing off
Ignore Format Changes
OpenMP Texture Decoder
Fast Depth Calculation
Vertex Streaming Hack

There is one issue I am noticing in the graphics section though. I am running an nvidia (which i will list with specs below) but the option for the adapter isn't there. Just OpenGL by itself. It only reappears if i switch between Open Gl and Direct3D and back again. Could this be the issue? Is it suddenly not using an adapter or using the default one? Any help would be greatly Appreciated as i love melee and being able to play it on the computer is great and i would like to continue to do so!

Computer Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7-4800 MQ Processor
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 870 M
Ram: 12 GB
64 bit
Windows 8.1

I'm sure tournament mode did not change anything. First check your power options on windows and set it to high performance if it is not already. Next go into Dolphin and change the adapter to your integrated graphics. Most laptops share CPU/GPU heatsink so if they are both being utilized heavily it can cause overheating and thus throttling. Your integrated graphics should be able to handle 2-3x IR (seriously, try 2x IR it looks amazing compared to 1x).

If you are still lagging after that, monitoring your cpu temps with a program such as coretemp and your clock speeds with a program such as CPU-Z. If the game is lagging see if your temps are high enough that throttling could be the case (90C+) or see if your clock speeds are lower than they should be (the i7 4800MQ is clocked at 2.7 GHz and should Turbo Boost to 3.7 GHz, if it is not in the 3.5 GHz range while playing you know something is limiting your clock speeds).

Your specifications are more than fine to run melee at full speed with some enhancements so it's not your hardware.

Wow I am a complete moron. My laptop defauled to power saving mode so it was limiting itself. Thank you so much for your quick and helpful reply! I went ahead and took your advice about the 2x setting, and you were right. Looks Amazingly better!! Thank you so much for your help! I also went ahead and got a clocking program like you suggested. Got so much useful knowledge from your post. Thanks a ton!

Tryahnon, I running Windows 8.1 as well. I don't have netplay, but want to start playing online for extra practice. Would you please link me to the thread you used to setup Melee Netplay?

Thank you very much.
