Dolphin GC controller + adapter setup help

It seems as though it takes a while when I press a button to be able to press another button, especially after jumping most of the time. I've tried pressing them extremely fast or delaying it a bit and everything in between, I'm not sure if it's my settings, dolphin version or even my controller or adapter. Any advice? Thanks guys
