I am getting together a large group of friends that like to play Smash in my area to do a sorta "crew" battle. It's in quotations because not everyone knows each other and we all decided to do random teams. This is great and will be cool but we need a way to make sure the top players don't all get on the same team. Is there a way or a program out there that can make teams by seedings? Like we don't want to have 3 of our top seeds on a team because that will basically ruin the entire event.

Any ideas on how to make this better? I was thinking maybe doing a draft for the teams but I am not sure if that will be best.

A draft is one idea. You can pick the best 2 players as Captains and have them pick. If everyone knows each other somewhat then that would work well and be fair I'd think.

Or with your current idea, you could randomly generate the teams with some simple web app and then make adjustments to balance the teams afterwards. Only problem with that is that you have your own biases and people could say something about that.

Another idea would be to go into some software like Challonge or Tio and act as if you were creating a tournament bracket, seed the players, generate the bracket, then make 2 teams from the odd/even seeded players.

Yeah I thought of doing a randomizer and then adjusting it, but I don't want people to think I am being biased. It's actually going to be 5 teams playing in a round robin format and all that jazz, so we would have 5 captains and the problem is one of the guys who would have to be captains invited a **** ton of really competitive players so he would know who to pick over who.

Thanks for the feedback, the draft mode might work better...

Also I just realized how I butchered the word "competitive" in my title. I should never make threads half-awake
