It works just fine. But does it matter? No.

Nobody but you will ever see it. High win ratios aren't even particularly impressive, because if could have just been beating up one some newbie who wouldn't quit for like 20 games. Or this one time a Japanese guy afk'ed on me for like 10 minutes before I left, would have been really easy to build up my ratio. But I didn't, because who cares?

I agree, but I feel the need to mention that people who spectate your matches will actually be able to view your W/L ratio, even though the fact that they don't know who you are just reinforces that it doesn't matter. :p

Does it matter in the grand scheme of tournament play...? Obviously not, but to say it doesn't matter at all is pushing it...if you have 500 matches and 0% win rate it's pretty clear that would mean you are lacking a bit in skill, just as 500 matches with a 100% win rate would mean you are clearly demonstrating an above average level of skill.

If that's just above average and not completely outstanding, I must have extremely low standards. But, yeah, I agree with Zipzo.

Very good point. If you do actually take it seriously meaning you actually don't just beat up some newb who doesn't quit but with mostly other serious players, it's actually quite a good way to reflect on your overall skill really.

I honestly don't care since I'm no where good at these kinds of games. The last time I checked I had a 48% win ratio. Lol

I just want some fun lagless matches to play really.

It's fine.

Honestly if you are trying to attest to what skill you are actual tournament results would be better in the long run. Even more so when not everyone is for glory is aiming for straight up W/L and just trying to have fun.

If you're facing some good competition on a fairly consistent basis after several hundred matches, your win rate is a nice way to gauge your skill against others.

It's nothing impressive otherwise. I'm hoping the Wii U's online will be much more in depth and public with regards to statistics. I'd definitely like to see the number of matches and win rates of FG opponents before I face them. A world leaderboard would be nice to look at.

It does give a general representation of how good you are, so I wouldn't say it doesn't matter. But it's by no means a perfect indicator of skill. Your online habits can influence your W/L, to varying degrees. If you're the type who likes to repeatedly play against someone you've already beaten, then you'll obviously have an inflated score compared to the type of person who wins once and leaves. Conversely, if you like to hang around and repeatedly play against people who are better than you, then your score will not reflect the extent of your skill, since you'll rack up a lot of losses due to fighting the same skilled outliers over and over again.

You also don't distinguish which W/L score you're talking about. There is a combined score and 3 individual scores. I hear most people sharing their combined, which includes 1v1, FFA, and teams, and that can be very misleading when you try to apply it to your skill in any one individual event. For example, my score reflects nothing on how I play in teams, because I've yet to do a team battle. My score is primarily from 1v1's, but it's inflated slightly by the small number of FFA's I've been in, due to the fact that I perform much better in FFA's than 1v1's.

Basically, it can be fun to try and improve your score, but don't attach too much of your self-worth to it, because it's not a perfect measure of skill.

Not really. For Glory is only decent for just testing out characters on real people so you can learn their ins and outs. But it's not really good for record-keeping matches. Especially for all the reasons stated.

There's plenty of reasons not to care, like dropping matches due to super lag, or just needing to get out of a match quick because you don't want nintendo to give you a time out.

While 500/500 is INCREDIBLE, even losing 500 matches is going to teach you a lot.

Oh it works. The ratio accurately shows your won and loss percentage. Doesnt mean a damn thing though because theres no matchmaking to follow it up.

At the same time one person has a reaaaaally insane 95% or better win rate, someone else could have less than 30% even though the two are the exact same skill level. Why so different then? First guy played nothing but idiots and got free wins, second faced a ton of pro-leagues and got his butt kicked over and over and over.

Quite frankly i hope they never add a legitimate ranking system to fan out people. I personally dont think theres enough players to do that, leaving some brackets barren thus very hard to get out of. SC2 had this issue for a looooong time (i stopped playing that so dunno if they fixed it) for example, as getting out of Gold was a nightmare.

I would still want a ranking system though because you said it yourself that basically all of the crappy people would lose meaning that they wouldn't even have a good ranking to begin with, though I feel something more like street fighter 4's ranking system would make more sense. They basically give you a grade and you get matched up with people of the same grade and if you won/lost a lot your grade would go up or down accordingly, you could also go up against people of a higher rank which would earn you more points if you beat them, it would work nice if every time you played a match you had to earn your rank or you'd lose it
