I no longer have a Wii and instead of getting another one, I plan on just upgrading to a Wii U, especially in light of Smash 4 coming out.

If you are doing PM hacklessly, then yes. You boot it up exactly the same way as on a normal Wii.

I believe you have to start up the Wii U without the SD Card, and then put it in at some point afterwards to avoid having the info on the SD card wiped or distorted or something.

I think Homebrew works on it to. I have seen homebrew channel on the Wii U before. I dunno how stable it is, though.
