Well I have a virus on Windows that shows up in my task manager. If I get Linux will the virus still be there?

You can either: get yourself an anti virus or get a live CD and manually delete it and maybe patch up the Registry depending on virus <.<

Linux is an OS like Windows is an OS. If you switch to Linux, the virus will be on your system, but more than likely, it will not affect LINUX.

Being a good little conformist
Reformatting is extreme. Google the process that's bad, see if there are removal tools/strategies. You should be able to stop it from starting up and/or get into Safe Mode and remove it from your drive. Alternately you can certainly boot into Linux and remove bad files that way.

Again, though, I don't recommend reformatting unless your system is really hosed.
