Does Homebrew Corrupt Gamecube memory cards.

Hi I posted this in the melee thread but no one seemed to know. I have a 1019 nintendo gamecube memory card. I played it on my gamecube for over 10 years and it never had any problems. But after I started using it on my wii it got corrupted after a while. It starts working again, and then reecorrupts after a couple uses. I don't remember if I had homebrew at the time. I have read that that 1019 can have problems on the wii years down the line but I've also read that this is a myth. I bought two super cheap 3rd party 4mb memory cards and both got corrupted as well. The game doesn't even say they are corrupted, it can't recognize them at all. The message "there is no memory card in slot A" shows up when they are plugged in. I've read that homebrew can corrupt the 1019, does anyone know if this is true? I have to use homebrew because I don't have an sd card 2gb or less. Also does anyone know if homebrew in general corrupts gamecube memory cards? Or is this not related to homebrew at all and just a specific problem with the 1019 memory card. Or is the corruption a problem specific to my own wii. I reformatted my wii recently and the 1019 started working again, and then i redownloaded homebrew and after a couple times playing the memory card got corrupted again, but I'm not sure if this is related to homebrew or if this was going to happen anyway. Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

1019s seem to be pretty hit-and-miss in general. I have one, and it's pretty much a dud - won't even work on my GC. On the other hand, my 251 has always worked perfectly. Wiis are apparently more likely to corrupt 1019s than GCs - from what I've heard, this has something to do with the WiiConnect24 service (which is now defunct). Specifically, it relates to the console constantly turning on (in low-power state) in order to connect to the WC24 service, and the heat built up by the system in doing so causes 1019s to corrupt.

Regarding homebrew, that almost certainly has nothing to do with it, since >99% of homebrew apps don't even look at GC memory cards - only the ones specifically designed to do so, like memory card readers/backup tools.

No surprise with the 3rd party cards not working, those things are jokes for the most part (though I once had a fairly reliable 59-block card from 4gamers or something like that).

(by the way this is the wrong forum for this - probably better suited to something like the Light House)

Ah alright that makes sense. I guess I'm gonna find a working 251 then. Thanks for the answer!
