Smash Wii U Does anyone not have a Gamecube controller? If so, what other controller do you use?

Gamepad.

Ive been using the GC remote for a few months and i cant help but feel like the button layout is inferior to that of the simpler Gamepad layout. Im thinking of just going back and using the Gamepad again at this point.

I use the Gamepad. I'd use the GameCube controller for this game just to see what the fuss is about, but I don't have one anymore.

The gamepad was so uncomfortable for me. I don't see how you can use it. The buttons are fine but the grip is just silly and impractical to me.

So I got a pro controller. I think the pro has every advantage the gamepad does but feels so much better.

Ive never held a pro controler so i can say for sure, but maybe.

The Gamepad has my affections by being very big and bulky. Mostly *wide. Because my hands are like huge spiders so it feels pretty great for my hands to have so much 'finger-room' So grip is the hugest plus for me :D

However the only peeve i have about the Gamepad is the texture material the top surface is made of...I hate how smudged and gross it gets if you dont clean it or get the palm sweats mid match. Looks nice polished down though.

If I, for whatever reason, can't play with a Gamecube controller, then I can play gimped but decent enough using the 3DS or Pro Controller.

I didn't get an adapter until recently, so I had gotten used to the Wii U Pro Controller. Going back to the Gamecube controller feels so awkward now. The C-stick is puny, and it's so far away from the jump button. The Pro Controller puts the C-stick right above the jump button, so doing fast shorthop aerials is easy.

Before I've gotten an adapter + GameCube controller recently, I've been using the Wii remote/w Numchuck since Brawl.

I really love the GamePad's design. I love the button layout, I love having the HOME, TV, and POWER buttons right there, and I love the screen being right there in front of me. I wear glasses, so if I ever don't wear them (and I don't wear them a lot), it feels nice to have a clear view of what's going on without having to sacrifice comfort.

I use the GameCube controller, but only because the GamePad isn't tournament legal as far as I know, since only one can be connected to the system at a time. If the GamePad were allowed, I'd stick to it wholeheartedly.

That's very reasonable.

I actually use the Gamepad.
Not only was I forced to get used to it (due to the lack of an GCN adapter), I found that the placement of X (one of the default jump buttons) being right under the Right Analog (or the C Stick, if we're using GCN terms) was really convenient for doing quick short hops into Fairs on reaction, as I'd just have to press X with my thumb to jump and immediately bump the C Stick with the thumb.

With the Gamecube controller, i'd have to use my index finger plus my thumb to do the same thing.

I could easily find easier means to do the same thing on the Gamecube controller, but the Gamepad has been working fine already so I don't think there's a point in changing it up... unless I'm fated to face someone at a local tournament who mains the Gamepad til death.

Didn't notice that I was the only one with a similar mentality. Different controllers, yes, but the Pro Controller is basically the Gamepad without the touchscreen, gyroscope, and other weird things, if I recall correctly

Used a third party XBox-ish controller. Worked fine in terms of handling, but broke after a month and all the paint wore away before that. Bought a Pro controller after that, but I find the c-stick placement really bizarre and have never really felt comfortable. Finally broke down and have a Mayflash arriving on Friday.

I do have a gc controller, but I've grown used to the 3ds, so whenever I play at a friend's house I play with that.

I've grown too used to the Gamepad/Pro controller. I honestly tried switching over to the Gamecube controller but it's just not for me, at least in Smash 4. C-stick placement is not an issue for me, never has been, so I'll probably just stick with it for now.

i use the wii u pro controller. it feels great in my hands and feels very good for smash 4 it makes tilts easier to perform than the gamepad or wii classic. Or you could try the official wii u fight pad it is a gaecube controller with a wi mote port and you can buy it at gamestop.

So you actually like the Gamepad? It's bulky.
I have the bulkiest controller here... and I have to carry around 2 of them when I go to tournaments since I play other fighting games as well.

...and yes I play Ryu in Smash 4

I use the pro, but recently I'm not liking it. I'm looking to move to the GCC.

I have 4 gc controllers and an adapter but I wanted to try a button map that I couldn't do with gc so I did it with the pro controller and ended up liking it a lot more, so now I use it.
what button mapping did you do that wasnt possible with the gamecube controller?

as someone who doesnt really play on a TV much, i normally use the gamepad in the stand, and a wave bird (since i have a very small place). i really love playing right on the gamepad tho, the only down side is the controller layout. mostly where the c stick is. im sure i could probably get used to it, and get as good as i am with the gamecube controller, but i cant really see the point, since its not like you can call the gamepad at a tourniment lol.

Gamepad. It's really my best option, and yes, I do have a Mayflash adapter and a GC controller. I just like the Gamepad's button interface and circular analog stick grooves a lot better than the GC controller or the Classic Controller, and I actually really like the way the controller's designed. It's a lot more comfortable IMO. I'm a massive casual, so I don't have to worry about bringing it to any tournaments either.

As much as I like the GC controller, I find I've been using it less for Smash lately, in favor of...

...the Nintendo 64 controller. (With a third-party adapter.)

Yeah, I know, weird. A literal step backwards. But it works just as fine for Smash now as it did in 1999. And it's better for me, since my hands get very shaky during intense matches; the notoriously weird handles and the easy-to-feel buttons help me keep that in check, along with the stiffer joystick making it easier to do tilts and subtle movements.
