Tomarrow will be my first time doing it, and I'm unsure on a few things. Mainly these two things:

Do they need ANYTHING of your parents (I live at home still)? Like would they need to know anything about their insurance?

And, do they pay you right there? Or do they mail you a check?

Thanks in advance.

I think you aren't supposed to eat like 24 hours or something. I forget because I'm terrified of needles. Don't you get paid?

You usually will get paid.

If your going to do it, you must only drink liquids 24 hours before hand. My blood is thick, kinda like me at times.

Luckily, Toecutter, a fellow wisconsinite is here to help.

It's a pretty simple process, the first time you go in you'll have to fill out a bunch of paperwork and other assorted sheets. You'll sign some stuff, make sure you have something that is federal and has your social security number. (passport, SSN card, Birth certificate.)

I dont think you have to do anything beforehand, you can go about life normally. I'm not sure about the eating and drinking 24 hours beforehand.

the process is simple, they will draw some blood, remove the plasma from it and put it back in. pretty standard. After that they'll pay you in cash.

You can milk em for some cash too. the first time you wont get that much, but the payout usually doubles after the first time. and they usually pay for gas money too, so tell them your mom wants gas money.

**** it.... you got me fair and square. I pride myself on my impeccable spelling and grammar, so that misspelling shocks even me.

Toecutter, have you been pricked and drained yet?

Well, I decided that I didn't want to do it, after all. It wasn't the fear of needles, or anything like that. It was that you had to drink TONS of water and do all this annoying stuff prior to the donation. With School and busy schedule I wouldn't be able to keep up with that.

To be honest, I don't know if that's really a valid excuse, but I decided not to. Another thing was, I was treated rudely at the Center. I was told it wouldn't take long, but I ended up being there nearly two hours. They forgot about me, and I had to go to the Front Desk, and do all this stupid BS.

Not worth it, imo.

It's your plasma. If they can't respect you in the office, they don't need it.

I still want to know how much the different donations actually pay.

Nice try DH_Ninjeroo, but I'm being extra vigilant now!

As much as I'd like to agree with you, the entire reason for plasmapheresis (plasma donation) is to help the people that are in need of plasma due to whatever disease/condition they may have. As annoying as the staff at the plasma-taking-center might be, it's not the patient's fault, and they should not suffer because of it.

Wow, that's nice. Not help dying people because you can't share a fraction of their suffering. If you can't handle it, go get high off of donating blood. Real chivalry you showed their. Drinking water is good for you, and it gets easy not having to eat after the first few hours of hunger. I say go do it anyway, or regret your decision later.

You have no right to say that. First off, it's MY plasma, therefore I can do whatever I want with it. I don't HAVE to help anyone. If I don't feel comfortable, respected, or that I have the time to do this, I won't.

Your post is ********. Preachy and ignorant.

I won't regret **** if I choose not to donate.

Rather forcifully put...

In the end its you decision as always, I think most of the posters in this thread want you to do it so they know how much cash they will get when you tell us...or maybe they do want to help you.

A different spot of advice, no more items at your tournaments. ;)
oh and choose your words wisely, some higher ups have been reading this thread.

It's your decision, but you don't need your plasma, do you? Someone else does though, and keeping it for yourself doesn't teach you anything. Sorry if I'm being blunt, but I've put up with a lot of crap today and one more selfish person is going to make me crack. If it's your decision then think about the money. Want to meet a friend of mine who needs an organ donation? How about a family friend desperately needing bone marrow? Thousands of doners are 'not feeling like it' right now, and it makes me sick. You need to travel abroad, or go visit the terminal ward in a hospital.

Um, no idea where the items at tourney's came from. I'm a pretty good and dedicated smasher.

If the mods ban me because they don't agree with me that's just abusing their power, and if I stand up for a point I don't care if I get banned. Ultimately I won't be the one who lost.

Of course it's my decision. Also, you aren't the only one who puts up with crap. I deal with annoying, selfish, ******* people daily as well.

You make it sound like I don't know there is suffering in the world. I DO KNOW. I'm not selfish, but I don't think I will be able to donate plasma at this point in time. There are many reasons, which I did not list because I didn't think people on SWF needed to know about them.

I don't need to visit any hospital, nor any of your friends. I know there is suffering in the world. However, you telling me that doesn't change it whatsoever.

Why DON'T YOU just realize what you can and can't change. YOU Donate plasma/blood/organs. Stop telling others what they should do, when you have no right to do so.

I wasnt talking to you, all i said to you was "rather forcifully..." all the rest was adressed to Toecutter. Sorry for the Confusion.
What are you talking about? I've never hosted any tourney, so I don't know what you mean with weapons...

Toecutter, you clearly said you *chose* not to do it. If you actually have physical problems to prevent you from making this decision, then I apologize and I'll admit I was wrong.

There is suffering, but you need to recognize that somewhere someone will be thankful for your donation. Every bit helps, and when you're in need of a downer later in life you'll regret your decision.

You might be more empathetic if you actually feel the suffering, instead of just acknowledging it.

I'm not 16, so I can't donate yet, but I volunteered for red cross work and when I turn 16 I'll be attending several blood drives annually. So don't try to make this about me, please.

Of Course I chose it. I can do that...you know with it being mine and all.

Let's see, that logic is ****ing stupid. Your saying that if I don't donate now, that when I'm in need of a donation, there won't be one. Sorry, I don't believe in bad karma, etc.

You might be more empathetic if you actually feel the suffering, instead of just acknowledging it.
How many Hospitals have you visited in foreign countries? I've seen suffering. I've seen Grandparents die, cousins die, many people I cared for have died. I've felt it.

I'm not 16, so I can't donate yet, but I volunteered for red cross work and when I turn 16 I'll be attending several blood drives annually. So don't try to make this about me, please.
Then YOU don't make this about me. It's my choice, tool, I don't need nor want some ignorant kid telling me what is right and what is wrong, when I KNOW, and have SEEN suffering. I've volunteered and worked at numerous such things as well.

gg no re k thx

You are making a lot of false assumptions. I never said a donation might not come, I'm saying you won't acknowledge the difference a donation makes until you get one.

I've had family die before. The difference is I couldn't have saved them. It was going to happen anyway. The circumstances are different.
One question, ever had surgery before?

Ok, you acknowledge bad things but don't help to fix them? Do you really think you made the right decision? You will seriously regret not donating later. You count on other people to keep you alive, even if you don't realize it.

No, you're basically saying that if I don't donate, I won't get a donation.

Not that I remember. I had some when I was a baby, I had literally cracked open my head when I was jumping on my bed. I was like 2, iirc.

I didn't say I did. There are factors keeping me from donating.

You count on other people to keep you alive, even if you don't realize it.
I don't have free-will? Wow...I wasn't aware of that.

No, I'm saying you won't recognize the affect a donation has on your life until you need one, and later on you'll wish you would have recognize the impact you might have had on someone's life.

That will do. You relied on blood people had donated to keep your heart pumping. Blood donations are sprouting up everywhere because there is a serious need for blood in hospitals.

I didn't say I did. There are factors keeping me from donating.
You said the factors weren't physical, so you're obviously prioritizing something in your life right now, I don't know the situation, so I can't judge you.

Umm, no because my heart had nothing to do with anything. I never lost consciousness.

They don't have to be physical. Mental health is just as important as physical health.

F&V, kindly shut the hell up.

No matter WHAT his reasoning is, he doesn't have to donate his plasma. His body creates it, therefore it's his. Yes, your body DOES need plasma, to whomever said he doesn't need it, but with healthy individuals it is created every 48 hours or so. It basically keeps the blood liquefied.

Seriously, Toe Cutter is the only person who has to answer for his decision. He doesn't want to give plasma, he doesn't have to. Reason: He doesn't want to. Get over yourself, Falco&Victory. You aren't even 16 as you said (17 is the donor age for most places) so you don't know **** about ****. Everyone else has been 16 and thought they knew everything too, but guess what you don't.

Crimson Pwned.

F&V, people donate plasma all the time. People aren't dying all over the world due to careless people greedily keeping their own plasma.

On a side note, I donated blood this past wednesday, and didn't pass out like I did the time before! n_n

My arm got all bruised up where the needle was, though.

First off, F&V and toecutter both got out of line with the arguing. That said, just something I want to clarify:

Regarding this...
Every bit helps, and when you're in need of a downer later in life you'll regret your decision.
and these...
No, you're basically saying that if I don't donate, I won't get a donation.
F&V, people donate plasma all the time. People aren't dying all over the world due to careless people greedily keeping their own plasma.
F&V isn't saying that people are dying everywhere or that toecutter's lack of donation now will prevent him from getting plasma if he ever needs it in the future. He's saying that one won't truly be able to appreciate the value of donating until he himself has to receive it.

Ok, this is about the 3rd time I've had to do this.

Sorry for being a complete douche yesterday, I got pissed off dealing with my friends relationship issues. I spent all night trying to get some of my friends talking to each other, and everything went downhill most of the time. I started about 5 flame wars on the boards. I'm going to take some R&R, I won't be back for a couple days. Again, sorry for my attitude.
