Like...a word...being bad? Lolwut?
Nobody believes that garbage right?

**** **** ***** **** ******* *******

Oh noes, I done a bad thing...

Zzzz, gets on my nerves

Words can't be bad, it's so stupid

The ONLY reason they're considered bad now is because we have been told, for generations, that they were bad, with absolutely no backing to that claim, we never asked for proof, never challenged the reason, they were juss bad, and we weren't spose to say them

what the **** is that ****? And now, I'm sure, most of us know that by saying them (which many of us do, constantly, without remorse or second thought) we have done absolutely nothing wrong, NOTHING

Yet they are still frowned upon, and we still refrain from using them in company of certain peoples, and when in certain situations. WHY

Everyone is, or should be aware that WORDS, CANNOT, BE, BAD

I don't GET IT, it's so stupid, what reason do we keep the act up, how many of us are going to grow up, have kids, or meet kids some where, and regurgitate what we know to be false about 'curse words' 'Don't say that word, it's bad'. And say it in such a way that won't allow the child to challenge it, and pretend they do challenge it, what are you going to say? 'It just is, now don't say it or you'll get in trouble' SERIOUSLY? ****ing so bad, we now threaten children with punishment for saying a word WE KNOW NOT TO BE BAD.

Remove the censor. Let the world grow up. Words are words are words are words, the only thing that matters is how you use them. You could say crap with the same ferocity as **** and it would be received differently. That crap is so dumb.

It's a word to express a feeling, there's no real meaning behind it. When it's used to insult someone then maybe people should take offense but if your frustrated, how bad can saying the F-word be? I'm not saying it to anyone right?

The problem with these words, is that they lack static meanings.

How many times have you said ****, **** = poop, no? that's what it means, right?
But that's not your intention

And these words are already socially acceptable, you say em amongst your friends don't you? that's a social environment.

I just think it's stupid that we're still censoring these words when these no real reason to

It's not the word that's bad, it's what the person intends to convey that makes it bad.
That's why at least four perfectly good words of the 1900s can no longer be used, is because some moron used it as a curse instead of what it actually meant.

Yup.

As long as you don't intend to offend (ha, rhyme) anyone, it shouldn't be a big deal.

Exactly

Which is why I find it funny when movies edited for TV merely sub out the 'bad word' for another word, when the intent is just the same >.>

Maybe if you could offer some explanation for your reasoning you wouldn't have to concern yourself with getting flamed. 'There are a lot of kids on this site', what does that even mean? I could see that being an argument if I was advocating drug use, but no, I'm talking about words.

Tell me, how did you learn about 'curse words', who told you not to say them, what reasons were you given for them being 'bad', and unacceptable to say?

I remember the first time I let a curse word slip in front of my mom, had no intention of saying it at all, I was just doing that name banana rhyme thing, and my cats name was lucky, lucky, with the F sound. I was like 8 or some ****, my stomach dropped, I knew I ****ed up, I had no idea why, but I knew that I wasn't spose to say that word, my mom looked at me and we exchanged mutual glances of disapproving acknowledgment, she knew it wasn't intentional so I didn't get in trouble, but I remember almost ****ting myself.

Why the **** was I so god **** scared? Because I sounded out f u c k y? GOD FORBID, MIRITE? It's all stupid bull ****

What if I was at daycare at the time, accidentally let that slip in front of a teacher, giving some credit to the teachers/administration, I probably wouldn't get in trouble, but there is a possibility that I would have gotten sent up to the office, maybe even had my mom called, then my mom might have ended up on trial, 'where did he hear this word'? As if the administration had never said the word in their life.

People should never have to feel bad for saying a word, they should feel remorse for hurting someone if they intended it, but if me and my friends are together and just ****ing around, and I tell him to shut the **** up playfully (which we often do) that's not the same and telling some one to shut the **** up in say, a threatening manner, and shouldn't be treated the same just because they share the F word

learned*

And no, but I decided some time ago that if I was ever confronted on my 'language' that I'd lay out my beliefs without any second thoughts on the subject, because I know I'm right. And you know if these words were, as they should be, acceptable, or at the very least just recognized as insignificant words, you wouldn't have to 'explain' where a parents son/daughter learned said word.

I can understand some words being harder to explain than others, but the F, B, S, and I guess to a lesser extent D and hell words need no explanation, I mean hell, the best explanation for the F word has got to be this video:

As far as censoring goes, some words should definitely be censored. They have meanings that relate to mature topics that children may not be ready to understand, like sex and racism. Thus, these words should be censored from places like TV, so that parents can choose to explain them when their kids are ready. Of course, if you're referencing the censor on this site, I'm thankful for it because otherwise there would be a bunch of really foul, childish flaming going on. I, for one, am thankful for it. I'm tired of people cursing because they think they sound older or cool. It doesn't work. They just sound like idiots when they use the f-word in every sentence.

The reason these words are censored is because, despite what some people might think, they still have meanings that enough people find offensive. Words are not just sounds. Every word has a meaning; that's what makes it a word. The words considered taboo have meanings that are either vulgar, blasphemous, or racist, and people don't want to hear that in everyday conversation.

I don't swear at all. There's a few benefits to it too. First off, it makes me sound smarter. Plus, it makes me think before I talk sometimes. There are times when I want to blurt something out, but I always catch myself, and it causes me to think more about what I say. And thinking before I talk has its benefits.

I agree that some words, the ones relating to sex and racism, should be censored.

But words like b****? s***? d***? That's just dumb.

And you do realize that people still use those words, the censor just replaces them with ****'s, so essentially it isn't solving anything. Dumb people are going to be dumb regardless of what words they use that we can see. You still have your immature, ignorant, stupid flame wars that pop up in far to many topics, 'curse words' don't relate directly to these though. Stupidity doesn't stem from curse words, nor do curse words stem from stupidity, they don't have pre-determined qualities like these, they are in essence words, it's up to the user to decide how they are received, not the other way around.

Just by using, or not using curse words, shouldn't determine your intelligence or the type of person you are, if you are truly a smart or unintelligent person it should show through regardless of the language you use.

And thinking before you speak should be a staple in any mature persons life...lol@blurting things out. It takes very little self control for me to censor myself when with family, I never have times where I've almost slipped up, I've seen my parents/grandparents struggle with slipping up moreso than myself, the only struggle I have is whether or not to curse intentionally and try to reform their thinking about words themselves. To this date I have decided not to, I don't believe the reception would be too appealing.

i remember one time i said the word F- while my mom was there, and she slapped me in the face so hard that i rolled on the floor,i was 8 years old,and i heard it said from my dad,i didnt even know what it meant, you think thats fair? you can hear that said nowdays everywhere,on tv,on radio, songs, movies,EVERYWHERE,and its not a bad thing as far as i know,if it was bad, people wouldnt do what it means...

censorship is a stupid thing, from every angle you can see it,it even promotes the use of this *bad words* for reasons listed above, why censor these words if instead you could just orientate your children families and friends to know when and where to use them?or simply to NOT teach them to other people if you dont want them to be used...

censorship=FAIL

I believe they're known as curse words because they're words that are cursed. Take the s-word for example. In the 1300's, the people of Europe stopped calling it skite, and started calling it sh(beep), the same time as the Black Plague, which killed over half of Europe. They believed it to be the work of dark magic, an affliction brought upon them by a mass utterance of a word of curse (curse word). I believe they're actually cursed, so I don't say curse words myself. I always say "click!" (think of a counter) when someone else curses. Note: Saying a curse word once in a while does nothing. The curse takes effect when a cursed word is spoken in profusion and en masse. Keeping a few words taboo just adds to the fun of English. If you spread the word of curse, the Knights of the Royal Order of Standards and Practices will come after you!

Mannnnn **** that **** i love it lol helps me remove stress. Why the **** would i wanna have a heart attack a 25 years old. I remember in preschool we had this teacher. She was a fat ***. She was always hounding me so one day i called her a *****. I got suspended for that though.
But IDK i hate it when people say that no cursing makes you sound smart. Its the american express way of getting **** off your chest.
I could say "sir your attitude has exasperated me beyond my finite tolerance"
Or i could simply say "you pissing me the **** off right now"
tone, tact and infliction is important but still at the end of the day you saying what needs to be said. Just pay attention to the venue you at.

Lol mate, I couldn't agree more. I used to ponder this when I was younger.

It's just the meaning behind the word, tone & how the person uses the word.

I mean we could substitute s*** for any other word. My mates and I in class use fudge and shizzle and the teacher can't say s*** even though they know what we mean.

The actual words means very little, it's more the intent, tone and how you say it. There are racist words that are said in song lyrics and jokingly to your friends, that's ok, because you're intent isn't to hurt or offend.

If curse words ceased to be 'bad,' they wouldn't be so special anymore.
Did you intend for that to be a more significant post than it was...?
Of course, if they were accepted as juss words, they wouldn't be special
but what benefits come from keeping them taboo
So scenes in movies can be more dramatic?
To enhance character development in movies?
Seriously, what worldly value do 'bad' words hold

This is a smart post.
Curse words themselves aren't bad, it's when they're obligated to be bad that they should be insulting. But I do find it stupid that people start using them just because they accepted by society as bad.

It's a confusing thing, I see them as okay but I hate the fact that we only see them fit because they're unfit.

Yeah this argument makes a lot of sense, they're just words

So if I happen to use the word ****** in front of a black person, they totally shouldn't get offended, it's just a word.

Same with **** in front of a women.

Or swearing violently in front of a little kid, these are all socially acceptable under your guideline.

Have you ever thought that these words make you sound truly ignorant and aren't entirely necessary, they're curse words because they mean negative things and are normally some of the worst ways to express yourself/the negativity.
