Does anybody else have friends who get tired of playing faster than they do?

I think Smash is one of the things I can literally do all day. But my friends seem to get tired after 3 or 4 matches. Anyone else have this problem? It's hard for me to understand how people could get tired of this game (or even Smash 4). I am much better than my friends, but I play worse on purpose or pick low tiers so they stand a chance. But even then they get bored easily.

Thoughts?

3 or 4 games seems a bit too little to get tired from. Does this happen with any other games they play, aside from Smash 4?

The brain uses 25% of a human body's energy. When playing to win, it's going to use a lot more. In fighting games, players are always in the action and always have to be responding and consciously thinking about what will happen. They have to observe their opponents, interpret patterns, and calculate/predict what could happen next, do certain actions that (what they think) are likely to work, and keep repeating that mental process repetitively until the game ends. Smash doesn't have the luxury, in terms of mental energy spending, of being able to relax a bit when getting comboed or comboing. Combos are very inconsistent and everything has to be reacted to

If your friends get bored easily, maybe the game or competitive play doesn't fit their tastes? If they know you're holding back, they might feel a bit disrespected to not be taken seriously

I have this problem BIG TIME. As a decent falcon/fox (i main ganondorf atm but i never play him against my friend) he always gets mad at the chaingrabs I get on him (he mains kirby, lol.) and either rages and stops playing or just says "I'm done" and stops playing. It's really annoying because he says the reason that he stops playing is because of my chaingrabs which he's known are present against Kirby since he started out. I really want to play more people but no-one is in the Ohio area that is decent at the game that I can practice with to improve.

It's funny I have the same problem, slightly different. My fried always rants and raves about the game, and so do I, we talk about it a lot. The problem is, is that whenever we play he only plays like 20 mins, but gets so hype about talking about it. He used to be better than me, but I have been slowly growing better than him, he used to win 70-30, now it's the opposite. Maybe he just doesn't like loosing,? All my other friends are scrubs, but will still play longer than him. I asked him why and he always gets angry at me and says "I don't know". It's weird because video games are literally his life, but the game he says is his favorite he won't play for long.

I can last about 4-6 hours. 1-2 hours on a bad day.

But yea, the game more fun with other competitive players.

I think it's probably just taxing for the reasons you mentioned. They know I'm much better than them, so they don't feel bad or anything when I hold back. I think they just don't love the game as much as I do.

Find better players who are actually into competitive smash if you're aiming to improve.
Thanks for the advice, but I was just pointing out that it kinda sucks, and is weird to me, that they get tired of it so quickly. I don't mind if they're much worse than me, I'll just pick Ganondorf and have fun.

Find better practice partners, that's basically it. I can play this game all day, all week, if your friends get tired of the game that easily, they obviously don't love it the way we do.

He's probably just more of a spectator type and doesn't really want to put in the work or have the drive to really get good at melee then he'll get irritated when he constantly loses cause he thinks he should be better than you and doesn't want to figure out why and just quits. I know that's atleast how it was with a friend of mine so it is probably something similar to that in a way. You just have to accept that some people are really just casual players in their heart who think the game is great.

I'm like that with some games. Some games I can only play for like 1-2 hours even if I love the game to death I have to do something else. Luckily with Melee I can play it for quite some time before wanting to do something else (helps that my friends feel the same way). This is probably why I have a large backlog of games to beat though...

I can do about a non-stop 1-2 hours before I like to change to something like Sm4sh to just refresh it.
I play about 8 hours of Smash non-stop basically every Friday at my scene so it also depends on the environment.
